((Meh, crappy title I know but I just wanted to get started))
The city and streets were always filled with people. So therefore the place should be filled with food right? Then why was it so hard to get any? The place should be filled with food that the clumsy people drop. Yet poor Toshi couldn't seem to find any. He could eat some from the garbage cans but he was starting to get sick of that food...literally. The last time he ate something from those things he ended up sick for three days with something he'd rather not speak of.
At the moment the small pup was staring at a couple humans sitting on a bench, licking his mouth occasionally. This trick usually worked with them. All he had to do was stare and stare, licking his mouth and whimpering a little on occasion. The two females on the bench couldn't resist much longer. They each gave them half of the hot dogs they were eating. Toshi engulfed one hungrily and took the other with him on the go. It was probably wiser to have eaten it in front of the humans but Toshi didn't want to stay near them much longer.
With the food in his mouth he ran into the nearest ally where he could he quickly in peace. He had to eat it fast before another street dog came to try to take it. "Heh, these humans are too easy. I should take food from them more often." Proud of his work he left the ally to go searching for the next person to try to steal food from. Was it really stealing if they gave it to him though?

Bandit breathed in the air he was unable to smell. His old stomping grounds, the city, where he was a master thief of surival. Even with no sense of smell, Bandit had made a living here, and he always welcomed a return trip. His single eye looked over people, while his banadged one remained hidden. He kept his head down, and his tail raised. His ears flicked every few seconds, as he kept track of everything around him. He paused when he heard a whimper, and he looked over to watch Toshi get food off of human-the easy way.
Bandit chuckled at that, that wasn't the right way to get food. As long as you were fast, humans couldn't catch you, and of course wouldn't remember you. Bandit didn't need to beg, not one bit-he was fine simply stealing everything he needed. Bandit continued to walk along, and he glanced at the young pup again, when he saw him in the alley. Bandit laughed, and lifted his head from the ground. He paused, his emerald green eye observing the people. With one paw raised, he soon found a target. A few teenagers, talking amongst themselves, and lazily carrying a bag of groceries. Bandit's tai flicked. He began to stalk his target.
Like a streak of lightning, Bandit began to sneak up on the teenagers. They didn't even notice him, even when he was close enough to be seen. With one quick lunge, Bandit tore the paper bag, and stole the first things he saw, carrying them in his mouth. The teenagers screamed, but Bandit just weeved his way through the crowd, and stopped when he reached an alley way. He turned into it, and lay down, as he began to survey his catch. He growled at one of the things he had caught, a frozen pizza, which wasn't really worth his time. However, he also stolen some sliced pepperoni, which he easily dove into. His ears flicked, however, before his jaws snapped around it, and he turned his head to face Toshi. "Ah, you-you're the little up-and-coming thief I saw before, aren't you?"

Toshi watched a gray streak run past and snatch something from the humans. For a moment, he was sure that it was some kind of gray ghost. But the humans noticed it so it couldn't have been a ghost. It was a dog...and it was heading his way! "Aah!" Toshi ran further back into the ally to get away from the dog that sped inside with it's stolen goods. Some frozen pizza and pepperoni. The food was what got the pup to come back out from his hiding spot behind a box. He was still hungry, enough to even approach a strange street dog.
When he was talked to he blinked and looked up at the older male with some awe in his eyes. "uh...yeah" he said, torn between the food and looking up at this male. "You're really fast. You stole that food before they even knew what hit them. If I was that fast I wouldn't be so hungry." As if that was his stomachs cue it gave a loud growl. It was like the hot dogs he ate didn't exist. "I'm not really much of a thief...but I'm getting better and better with practice." Toshi was at least proud of that after being in this city for his short life. He left out the parts where the other bigger city dogs stole his food.
"Maybe I could get better if I watched you again?" he said, small tail giving a light wag. Maybe if he watched and learned from this male, Toshi would become a better street dog. A better thief. Then he'd be able to survive better and show those other dogs what for.

"You're really fast. You stole that food before they even knew what hit them. If I was that fast I wouldn't be so hungry."
Bandit chuckled, "its not speed that wins the day. It helps, but pup you have to learn how to single out the easy ones from the challenging ones. Pick and Choose your battles." Bandit tossed this out in the air as if he did it all the time. Bandit took a lot of pride in being a thief, and even more so in being a skilled one. So, sparking awe in this young pup's eyes made Bandit that more proud of himself.
"I'm not really much of a thief...but I'm getting better and better with practice."
'Ha, does he think he is something special? Begging food off of people is hardly full-proof. It fails the more you do it, I guess he'll have to learn that the hard way, then.' Bandit took a slice of the pepperoni and ate it before replying. "Ah, little thief, how do you think I got as good as I am? Lots and lots of practice. Training only helps you go so far." Bandit's mind was always fixed on stealing. He didn't see anything special in this young pup, but he saw eagerness. Of course, in thieving eagerness only got you as far as your first wound. Slowly you would learn if you were cut out for the job or not. Bandit was-he had a good mentor, and his wound became a trophy that always adorned his face. However, for every dog like Bandit, there were thousands of others like this pup. They tried to be innocent, and always got pushed around by bigger dogs. Both of these types of dogs-young, innocent pups and bully dogs were not cut out for stealing. Innocent pups were to easily pushed around, and bullies would rather steal it off the thieves. A bully could not even make it one day without stealing food; he couldn't catch his own if he tried. They wanted to be 'top dogs'. Bandit scoffed that, he was a 'top dog' in his own right.
"Maybe I could get better if I watched you again?"
Bandit was always eager to show-off for others. "Alright," Bandit grunted, his tone not pleased nor agitated. Bandit stood, and walked around his food. He stretched his head out of the alleyway, "watch closely. I'll take on a hard one." Bandit's ears flicked forward, alert. His tail stretched out, bad Bandit's green eye scanned around, looking at the people walking past them. In all people, their were varying egress of 'hard'. Generally, the younger the easier. However, the hardest ones could also be the youngest ones. A young child would cry-and alert everyone else. A man with a pocket-knife could kill with one well placed stab. A purse from an elderly lady could shake you off balance and make you a sitting duck. Of course, Bandit knew all this, and like a computer, he focused in on one target.
A toddler, eating an ice-cream cone. Bandit didn't care much for the ice-cream, but the cones usually were good. Bandit looked around at others, planning his route. Then, Bandit ran out. He ran past his target, mad ea sharp turn, and ran toward the toddler. The toddler screamed upon seeing the speeding, savage thief. The mom pulled the toddler away, but Bandit aimed for him. Bandit turned and growled at the toddler, and snapped toward him. The toddler wailed, and dropped the ice cream. By now, a giant crowd has assembled, and were all watching Bandit. A few men were trying to get close enough to grab him. However, Bandit expected this, and so he grabbed the cone, and raced back the way he had raced out. He made a sharp turn into the alley way, and sat down. He panted, but otherwise looked fine. "The easiest prey can often be the most deadliest if you do not know what to expect." Bandit dropped the cone on the ground, and leaned against a building in the alley way. His ears flicked, and his eye scanned. It took a lot out of him, but Bandit hardly ever failed. And when he did-he always lived through it.

"Pick and choose my battles" Toshi said softly to himself, memorizing it. The pup would keep those particular wise words in his head for the future. He sat down and watched him eat, listened to him speak, both with much awe. This guy obviously has been doing this for a very long time. How long he can only guess. When he agreed to show him more he got up and nodded, excited to get to see him in action once more. As he went to the ally entrance he followed, standing close and following his gaze with his own. What kind of person was he going to steal from he wondered. Another teenager? Elderly maybe?
The older male chose a target and left, leaving Toshi to watch his every move closely, learning. He ran out towards a young child. At first it confused him. Stealing from the young? That wasn't going to be so hard. Or so he thought. The child let out a loud scream, sending the people around them into high alert. What's he doing? He's going to get caught. A crowd forming, people trying to grab him, but the male got what he wanted and ran away before they could lay one finger on him. In he came back into the ally with the cone in mouth, looking tired but other than that seemed fine.
Toshi looked up at him, eyes somewhat wide as he spoke more wise things to this young pup. "Right." He went to the cone and nudged it with his nose back towards the older male. It wasn't like him to steal food from other dogs, not when they've earned it like this one did. After that he went back to the ally entrance to look for more people. Toshi wanted to see if he could be as good as this dog if he tried. Begging wasn't going to work forever. Sooner or later he was going to grow up and lose his puppy charm. What then? Was he going to starve or try to bully others? No. I want to be better than that.
The crowd of people was still around, looking around for the other dog and so was a bit distracted. If Toshi was going to do this now was his chance. He chose a target, an old lady, and dashed out. Sure it was no kid and it wasn't some muscle bound guy but it was a jump from what this pup was use to. He ran across the street and jumped onto a bench to get to the woman and her purse. She didn't see it coming, having been watching the mother try to comfort her child. The moment she felt the tug of his weight however she instinctively swung. Toshi however wouldn't let go and let out a growl as he twisted his body enough to let her go when she tried to swing again. He hit the nearest building with his paws and landed on his feet.
To avoid the people trying to get him he ran under the bench and across the street. A car honked it's horn to alert the people that were running onto the street and Toshi froze. Not out of fear but to avoid actually getting hit. Thanks to his small size the car easily passed over him and the pup ran back to the ally before anyone could think of what he did. The pup dropped the purse and looked up at the older male. "Did I do good?" he asked. From the pups point of view he did alright but he couldn't see himself from the sidelines.

When Toshi sped off without warning, Bandit could only guess that it was going to be stealing-related. And, Bandit was right. Naturally, Bandit observed the scene. He observed it with a critical eye, marking any and all points that Toshi made a wrong move. 'He doesn't know what to expect, even though he runs up there with confidence. He makes use of the confusion-and that is good.' Bandit sighed when Toshi was slammed against the building, even though he rebounded, 'a theif needs every leg, even a small sprain can end them. Toshi needs to learn to attack quickly and take only what he believes is needed. The fact he is going after a purse-and not food-is a downfall.'
Then, in all the confusion, Bandit heard the end for the pup. A car, he had always expected a car, but they were silent until it was to late. Many a theif lost their life because of a car-one of those events you just can't always expect. Bandit knew to expect cars, and other dogs. He did his best to avoid them at all costs. However, Bandit was surprised not to hear the sickening crack of bone or yelps of paint hat often arose from a dog's mouth before they fell dead. Bandit realized that Toshi used this to his advantage. He was small enough to escape the cars paths without being injured. 'He shouldn't get used to that, he won't be that small forever.'
"Did I do good?"
Bandit was not sure how to reply to that. Toshi was average, not horrible, but was also making common mistakes. "You did average, pup." Bandit barked, looking at the crowds of people. "You made mistakes that may have costed you your life, but by no means were they the worst I have ever laid eyes on. Why did you go after the purse? A theif will only steal what he needs. You and I have no need for anything except food, water, and shelter. The first two are the ones you must focus on stealing." Bandit thought for a bit, and then continued, "you also made risky descions, and did not know how to react. A simple broken leg can mean the end for any theif-even myself. The fact you did not know to expect the lunge of the purse shows that. However, you did use the confusion of the crowd to your advantage."
Bandit then sighed, "but the worst mistake you made, was with the car. Cars earn the lives of many dogs, but especally theives. Avoid busy roads at all costs. You were able to dodge it today, but will you be able to a few years from now, when you have grown?" Bandit now looked down at the young pup, and he picked up the ice cream cone, and held it in his jaws as if it were a cigar. However, Bandit crunched down on the cone, and moved it around in his jaws so that it did not fall as he swallowed. He was lucky it was not chocolate at the bottom, but Bandit doubted it would have been in the first place.

Toshi's tail stopped wagging as he was told he did average. Well...it was better than being told he did horrible at least. He was asked why he went after the purse and Toshi looked at him with an expression that seemed to say 'you don't know?' The pup opened up the purse and nosed his head inside, making crunching noises when he pulled his head out. "She had food in it!" The pup smelled it and thought, even though it was in a purse, food was food. And it was crunchy chips too. Something he found he really liked. Toshi only ate a little of the chips while he talked, ears going down a little. The older male was right and obviously knew a lot about what he was saying.
The car though he thought was a pretty good idea. But he did have a point. Toshi wasn't going to be a puppy forever. He continued to look up at the older male as he ate the cone, not sure what else to say. He had done good for his first attempt at stealing. Not great...not perfect by far...but he wasn't bad or horrible either. There's so much I don't know and...he knows it... "Maybe you can teach me more" he blurted out without really thinking. "What do you think?" Toshi knew it was a long shot. He was a lone male. Why would he want a pup hanging around him? So the pup was expecting a refusal.
"You obviously been out on your own for awhile and...I can learn from you. It'd only be for a short while." Truthfully he didn't want to be out and about on his own anymore. Even the company of this older male is better than nothing.

"She had food in it!"
Bandit turned his head to watch Toshi pull out the bag of chips. Truthfully, Bandit never went for things that did not look, or sound like shopping bags. Bandit wasn't about to admit that he couldn't smell, and hence could not tell what was ever in the bags he stole. Somedays, his stealings contained food, sometimes not, and when they didn't, Bandit would go hungry for a day or so. Stealing to much in one day was something that wasn't safe or good for any dog. Running and having your heart beat out of your chest is fun a few times, but doing so to much can cause you to break down and give up. Bandit knew this, it was one of the things his master had told him, something that Bandit had learned from him-as he had learned everything from him.
"Maybe you can teach me more. What do you think?"
The question didn't surprise Bandit. He had been asked the question many times, and sometimes he accepted, and sometimes he regected. Many times he lost the pups he trained, either because they died or gave up. Many probably want him dead because of it, but Bandit knew that street dogs weren't the only ones who wanted him dead. The humans probably had a bounty on his head by now, and they had yet to catch him once, and even when Bandit had close calls, they hardly ever lay a mark on him. Still, Bandit had to figure if Toshi was worth another go. Another chance to continue his legacy, an unoffical heir.
"You obviously been out on your own for awhile and...I can learn from you. It'd only be for a short while."
"Out?" Bandit suddenly seemed to respond, "pup, I wasn't born on the street, I had an owner who taught me everything I know, and put it to practice in the human world." there was a slight sharpness in his voice, "I wouldn't be anything if it hadn't been for him. Still, this trip back to the city wasn't supposed to be long-" Bandit had wandered away from the Ebisu pack to come back to his old stomping grounds, and even though Bandit wasn't a Japanese Native, he knew his way around good enough. Bandit's ears flicked, and he knew the longer he lived without an heir, or someone to teach. Or someone to continue his reign when he eventually passed on. Why not this pup? Why? Bandit saw nothing in this dog-but then again what gave him the right to judge? Bandit had been born in a puppy-mill, the lowest of the low, and yet in our world, he stooped even lower. Yet in his world, he was king. "Alright, pup. I'll teach you for a bit-but you have to follow my every word. I'll help you once if you get in a bad situation, but only once, and then you're on your own if you come face to face with anything you can't run, jump, or weazle your way out of."

"You had an owner?" Toshi said with some awe in his voice. He had little experience with owners since the one he had gave him up shortly after getting him. His owner sounded cool to this pup! He taught him everything he knew. That had to be some master this male had. The pup envisioned some great human master thief being chased by a group of angry people, with this male dog by his side and both suddenly disappearing almost like ninjas. A pups imagination knew no bounds. Toshi's tail was wagging more and he was brought back to reality at the male's reply.
"You will? Great!" The pup jumped a little in his excitement. He gave a vigorous nod. "Right. I understand completely" he said with determination in his young puppy eyes. "I'll be the best student and I'm ready for whatever you got." Toshi felt he could take on just about anything now that he had a mentor beside him. A mentor who wasn't about to start babying him and was going to show him the ropes, and teach him to stand on his own four feet. Teach him to be a real dog. "What should I do first? And should I call you master? I don't remember getting your name." Toshi didn't even remember if he gave his own name but that was from habit. Nobody ever bothered to ask. They just came up with their own name for him 'shrimp' 'pup' 'kid' 'tiny' it all meant the same thing.
I can't wait to get started he thought with another wag of his tail.

"You had an owner?"
Bandit chuckled, noticing the awe in the young pup's voice. 'He's certainly an imaginative one.' Bandit thought looking out into the street, surveying the crowds. They were dying down, and not nearly as crazy as they had been only a few moments before. Bandit simply blinked at this, his ears flicking wildly back and forth, keeping a look-out in case his one eye did not catch something.
"You will? Great! Right. I understand completely. I'll be the best student and I'm ready for whatever you got."
'He is determined, he is eager.' Bandit's ear flicked, and he turned his head to look at Toshi. He nodded, slightly. 'I doubt that you could survive long if I gave you a real challenge.' Bandit had not done a 'real' challenge in a long time, and by real Bandit referred to stealing something that was not needed. Something he had not done in such a long time. He missed stealing for the fun of it, but as a dog one had little use for something you didn't absolutely need. Armor, weapons, they all slowed you down, and a thief hardly needed weapons or armor, as long as they were fast, smart, and good at what they did. "Well, at least you are eager, kid." Bandit's eyes focused on the crowd again. He watched as the crowd began to clear, and he seemed to tense. His legs braced themselves, and he lowered his head.
"What should I do first? And should I call you master? I don't remember getting your name."
"First, I will explain to you the three rules of thieving. One, you must plan your route-know what you are stealing. Two, you must be fast in the act, a slow dog is a dead dog. And Three, if you loose a catch-whether to another dog, or human, do not fight for it. A broken paw means death, and the bully dogs can smell pain and blood miles away." Bandit seemed to almost loose his balance as he stood and began to walk forward, slowly. His balance was not very good, being a mill dog. "As for my name, you can call me Bandit; but only when we are alone. Otherwise, make up the first name that comes to your mind." Bandit did not consider himself a master, and so would not be addressed to as such. "I am going to aid you in stealing food, and I am going to pick a rather challenging subject. You will do as I instruct, and you will follow me. We are going after the man with a knife-" Bandit nodded to a young-man leaning against a pole with a blade out. He held a bitten sandwich in his hand. "Food is food, no matter how small."
Bandit then began to crouch, and began to take cautious steps out of the alley-way. he glanced back at Toshi has if to motion him to follow. The man was down the sidewalk a little, and Bandits plan was to teach Toshi the dangers of thieving. Being his first outing, Bandit would save him if anything went wrong. That was how his master taught him, and how his master saved him on their first expedition. A wound that now was covered by the rag over his eye.

He was complimented on his eagerness, something Toshi had by the boat load in his opinion. The pup watched the older male's gaze, going to look over at the crowd. He started to try to think like a thief, to see if he could see what the older male was seeing. When he started to speak he tore his eyes away to look up at him. Three rules. To the pup they might as well have been called the three laws. He nodded his head to each of them, putting them permanently in his memory. The last one he knew all too well. The big bully dogs...like damn vultures.
Toshi followed him when he started to move, noticing the slight imbalance to his step. Did he get hurt? No...I don't see any injuries. Toshi tried to see if there was anything wrong but he decided he wouldn't say anything unless Bandit told him otherwise. "Bandit" he said softly, as if to make sure nobody else could hear. "I got it." Nobody else was going to know Bandit's name. The pup continued to follow him as he told him what he was going to do, nodding as he head as he spoke.
Eyes widened a little though when he heard of who they were going to go after. "A knife?" he said, as if to make sure he heard correctly. Eyes moved to look at the man that had the dreaded blade out, eating a sandwich. "Food is food...no matter how small..." As if to agree he felt his stomach twinge in pain, hungry again so soon.
Bandit then crouched and led the way out, Toshi following suit, soon followed after him, body low to the ground. He awaited his instructions as he was crouched near him, eyes never leaving their target or the targets food, ears back and small tail perfectly still. The pup felt that with Bandit here, really, what could go wrong? He'd show him that even with a knife he could still get that sandwich. One way or another.

Bandit lead Toshi closer to the man, but stopped suddenly and without warning, his eye fixed on the man, and his ears perked forward. However, his tail was not standing up, he was alert, but he did not seem to be as tense as he looked. "Kid," Bandit growled, his left ear flicking toward Toshi, "I want you to go after the knife-the knife is in his left hand. Do not come at him from the front, you need to weave your way to him and attack him either from the side-or behind. A human almost never stabs sideways."
Bandit took another step, "I will go off first, and the moment I bite his wrist, you need to be there. If you are a second late, you will fail your first lesson-and possibly your mentor, depending on how and where this human stabs." Bandit said this as if it was no big deal to face the blade that could easily end him. Bandit had faced much worse then this.
Bandit departed from Toshi, and weaved his way through the crowds, still in the crouching position. When he got half-way, he looked back at Toshi-"Now kid, run!" Bandit then looked away and ran at the man, weaving his way past the man, and then backtracking so that he came at the man from the side. Bandit launched himself into the air, his jaws ready to come down on the man's wrist.

Toshi stopped in his tracks when he was addressed, looking up at Bandit. "The knife?" He wasn't going to argue with Bandit's orders. But it did seem a bit confusing. What use could a knife be to a dog? "Okay." He gave a firm nod after the plan was told and waited for Bandit's first move. Toshi positioned himself so that he could get the human from behind, ready for when Bandit striked. He was ready, body tensing a bit and tail wagging from both the excitement and a some fear. The pup's never gone after a human with a weapon before...
When the order was given Toshi's paws hit the ground hard as he sprinted towards the human. He caught a glimpse of his mentor's jaws opening wide to clamp down on the wrist that held the blade. His heart pounded in the pups ears as he weaved around people's legs and made a dash behind the man, quickly making a leap for the knife. He had hoped that the man would let the knife go when being bitten by Bandit but either way, he sunk his teeth into the hand before getting the prize that he sought after.
The knife clanged to the ground where Toshi quickly grabbed it after a rough landing on his feet. "Got it!!" He said to Bandit, keeping the knife in his jaws as he started to dash away from the inevitable crowd that would be forming. I did it!! I did it!! The pup was swelling with pride at accomplishing one of the first tasks that Bandit issued him. Had he continued on like this he'd feel even more proud. But new to all this he made the mistake of looking back to make sure that Bandit was still with him or if had gotten caught or something. Not paying attention to where he was going he charged into something's leg, falling backwards and shaking his head.
He didn't waste time with looking up to see who exactly he had bumped into but maybe he should have. "Where ya goin' ya runt?" Toshi's heart almost stopped at the familiar deep voice, instinct telling him to just high tail it outta there! He didn't give the larger dog a chance to harass him this time. Dodging the large canine he went around and into the nearest ally to wait for Bandit.

When the knife fell, Bandit quickly lunged for the sandwich which he easily took out of the man's hands. Bandit heart Toshi's paw steps, and as soon as Bandit landed from his lunge with the sand which in his mouth, he darted into the crowd. His ears flicked suddenly when he picked up the sound of the dog Toshi had run into. 'Where did that kid go? He probably doesn't even see him.' Bandit sighed, and continued through the crowd until he made it to the alleyway.
He heard Toshi's paw steps behind him, and the thief turned to see that Toshi had succeeded at stealing the knife. Bandit dropped the sand which, "That is for you," Bandit refereed to the food, "and I will take the knife." bandit knew how to use knives, even though he hardly ever did. He knew how to hold the handle in his jaws, and knew how to stab. However, Bandit only used knives when necessary, and when they were not needed, Bandit simply used them to mark his territory by sticking them into walls.
Bandit then sat down, watching the crowds for the dog he had seen, and Toshi had come across. "For your first heist, you did well. But you became overconfident. The dog you saw-you must always be ready for those. Thieves who become overconfident soon waste their gift because they believe that it is just as easy to steal another's life as it is to steal an item-and kid, it is much easier to loose your own then steal another." Bandit looked down at Toshi, and wasn't sure what to make of this pup. He was either something with promise, or something that would not last long here. It was hard for Bandit to decide.

Toshi dropped the knife when his mentor dropped his sandwich. "Really?" His stubby tail wagged as he practically pounced on it, quickly devouring it as if he hadn't eaten not too long ago. As he ate though he looked up curiously towards Bandit. Why did he want the knife? It wasn't food or anything...and dogs didn't have hands like humans to use it. What good was it to a dog?
When he finished his food he sat down and looked up as Bandit started to compliment him. Or at least at first he did. Toshi's ears went back when he mentioned the other dog. "Okay...I understand." Toshi looked back, thinking about that other dog. It surely wasn't going to be the last time that he was going to see him. The big dummy was trying to claim this part of the city as his own through brute force. Looking back at what Bandit had done to the knife by putting it in the wall, was Bandit claiming his territory as well? I think he's got a better shot at it than that big lummox the pup thought.
He looked up at Bandit, standing up with his stubby tail wagging slightly. "What's next?" he said, looking ready for whatever task was next. "But I think...I'm sure that the other dog you saw will be back" he said, ears going slightly back. "He needs to be taught that this isn't his city...nothing but a dumb bully who can't do much for himself." Toshi wasn't one for revenge but every dog had their limits on how much abuse they can take from another.
((REALLY sorry for late reply. School's getting to me >_<))
