A small white and brown form huddled in the only dry corner of the old barn. The air had a solid feeling to it with ice crystals hanging in the air. That mixed with the strong scent of decay created a heavy depressing energy all of it's own. Ribs stood out sharply from the dogs sides and her green eyes burned with a feverish light. It had been a week since Radio had escaped the the government lab and it had been a week and a half since she had last had a full meal. When she had imagined breaking out she had thought it would have been as she had remembered. All those months ago the sun had shone strongly and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. This was her first winter in the forests of Japan. Never before had she wished harder for the company of the two large retrievers and the fox who had become her new family. They had all been put under procedure after procedure and they always had one another to come back to.
In their mad dash for escape they had become separated. For the past week Radio had been trying to find them. By nature she was a fighter and a hunter. But having never seen a winter she was ill-equipped to handle herself. The only thing that kept her alive now was the thick broken coat that kept winter's bite from catching her throat and sending her to an early grave. It was hard for her to believe that she hadn't even lived an entire two years when to her it seemed like a hell stricken eternity. She had spent half the night huddled here, she would be loosing sensation in her paws right about now, of course that would be if she had actual paws. Her toughness and will to survive had gotten her through surgery after surgery. Each procedure contstruced more of what she had lost. It was as if she was becoming something other than the scared puppy who had tried to save her brother and father.
"If I don't get moving soon there isn't going to be a bit of soul left in me." Her voice was bitter and empty to herself. It was a recent habit for her to talk to herself when she found that she was alone. It was a coping mechanism that pushed away the nagging of loneliness. Snow had made it's way into the barn through gaps in the thatched roof that had rotted away over time. Radio's sheltered corner was nearly the only spot in the barn that remained free of snow. Despite it remaining untouched by ice, it was no warmer than it was anywhere else. Finally she willed herself a few paw steps forward. The metallic clicking sound that her paws normally would have made were dulled to nothing. Her only option now was to move or become a metal and flesh statue frozen to the floor of the barn. On slow responding legs she trotted her way carefully out into the snow.

Yaguu had been traveling for days through the thick snow. He had been following Radio's scent when he spotted the old barn. Catiously, he approached, the goose in his jaws dangling back and forth. He poked his huge head in. "Hello?" he asked, voice booming. He smiled softly at the pup.

Her body shot ram rod straight as if an electrical current shot through her body. The unfamiliar scent had reached her ever so faintly at first but the voice was the trigger. A quick about face revealed to her the mountain of fur with a bird hanging from his powerful looking jaws. That could just as easily be her hanging from those jaws, and if she didn't play it right it would be her dangling lifeless from that mouth.
She was slightly taken aback by his friendly hello, but it simply made her even more unsure than she had been. The goose caused a stirring in her belly that was just nagging at her to be answered. Perhaps if she was quick enough she could tear off a leg and make a dash of it. But that would be too risky, she had underestimated dogs of his size and mass in the past before. Her body was reminder enough not to try it. Maybe now was a good time to try and gauge him. With one smooth movement she shifted up onto her toes, tail straight up, and ears forward. The last thing she was going to do was show weakness. "What do you want you old fart?" She let the scathing remark hang in the air as she tipped her head roguishly to the side.

Yaguu set down his bird, ignoring the young dogs rude comment. He was an old grandfather, soft at heart. Yaguu sat and scratched behind one ear, rolls of ski waggling. The english mastiff yawned. "To help, young one," he said. "A pup in such dire condition is my responsibility." He pushed the goose in such a way that it slid on the ice to the pup. "Sit, pup. Dont waste your energy one me. The most your could do is tickle me with those 'teeth' of yours," he smile warmly.

She noticed that her rudeness was simply brushed off. It wasn't likely that she would set him off with insults. Of course calling someone what they actually were was not always the best way to get them angry. An angry enemy is always easier to bring down than a cool headed one. The old timer plopped himself in the snow and nonchalantly scratched at his ear. Radio felt silly with her hackles raised at someone who didn't even take her seriously. As the wind changed direction it wafted a loosened goose feather right in front of her. Her nose was set aquiver at the fresh kill that was so close, but the only thing stopping her was the simple idea that the other dog might be a threat. She blinked and shifted her weight as the goose slid to within a few inches of her right paw. Whether she liked it or not she could easily spirit the thing away before the large lump of a mastiff could even get himself to his feet, or that was what she thought.
"So your here to help... There has to be more to it than responsibility. I've never met you before in my life." In a world like this nothing ever came for free. Certainly he expected something in exchange for the goose. There had to be something more to it than pure charitability and the urge to help someone in need. Radio's hackles rose up again after the teeth comment. "Trust me ya moldie oldie I can do much more than just tickle." Some of her hunger dissipated as a fresh flow of adrenaline pumped through her. A fight always put her in a better mood.

Yaguu chuckled, tongue lolling out lazily. "Go ahead- I won't stop you," he answered. Yaguu watched her catiousley, when he caught a scent in the air. His ears perked and he jumped up, nose twitching. "You smell that?" he whispered. He smelt a Male wolf was near and his hackles rose. He backed into the barn a few steps and a gray paw appeared in the doorway. Sure as rain, a gray wolf stepped into the doorway. He was rather small and skinny, red eyes gleaming and long, curved, white teeth bared.

There was a feeling of uncertainty that tinged the air and somehow the crisp freezing air was thick and hard to breathe. Whatever it was made her hackles rise up again and the large dog near her was somehow the least of her worries. Radio's robotic ear twitched in the direction of the humoring challenge. She wished that she could give it a try but there was a threat that neither of them could see but the both of them could smell. As an involuntary afterthought she took a step forward so as to be positioned over the goose carcass. At some point she would have to come to the realization that the other Yaguu had no intention of turning her into lab experiment or tearing out her throat. Unlike the sorry looking wolf who stepped outside from the barn in which he had been hiding. "I smelt that alright, and I see it too." Her left lip curled in a half snarl that could only be taken for a warning rather than a threat. It was a lean winter and most everyone was hungry. The gray wolf was a smaller rangy specimen that looked to be in need of at least six geese to keep fur and skin together. "Can we help you?" She hoped that the we was enough of a sign to the larger dog that she was willing to let sleeping dogs lie. As usual she had worked herself into a frenzy without thinking of anything but isolating herself from the first dog she saw.

"Can we help you?" Shuka saw a half robotic pup and an old Mastiff. He grinned slowly at the pup. "Give me the goose," he answered, stepping forward. "And I won't hurt either of you. "You wont touch us anyway," Yaguu growled, taking a stepp towards him. "Shut up, old man!" Shuka growled, swatting the side of his face. Yaggu caught Shuka's paw in his moouth and swung him to the side. Shuka slammed into a wooden wall and fell to the floor. With a growl, he struggled back to his feet.

It was a situation that was inflammatory and would erupt at any moment. There were two hungry animals and one who wasn't in the mood for any lip. Radio knew that violence was only a few breaths away and she solidly prepared herself for it. A life saving meal was not something she was about to relinquish even if she had to fight for it. "You can have this goose if as soon as I'm bleeding and dead in the snow!" Before she could react to what was happening there was an exchange between Yaggu and Shuka that instantly escalated into a full blown fight. The first blow was dished out by the wolf across Yaguu's face. Being the larger of the two that he was, Yaguu seemed to act as if a horsefly had decided to nibble on his lip.
As if he were a ragdoll, Shuka was tossed into the farm that he had exited from. Shortly later he brought himself struggling to his paws. Radio could not pick up any immediate injury from either Yaguu or his opponent. She did not wait for Shuka to recover any more than he had. On light agile paws she zipped forward like greased lightning and propelled herself directly for Shuka's paw that had only just been in Yaguu's jaws.

As Shuka, recovered, he saw the pup race for hs paw. Her teeth bit down hard on his toes, almost adding insult to injury for it was the same paw that Yaguu had crushed. Shuka growled and threw his leg, trying to fling Her off. "Zetsu Tenrou Batt-" he cut off with a gasp and a gurgle. Yaguu's huge jaws had locked around his neck tightly, drawing blood. He kicked and Squirmed as Yaguu easily carried him a few yards away and threw him into a large rock. Shuka lay in the reddening snow. His head lifted and he raced for Yaguu.

Her eye's lit up with satisfaction as her canines clinched down on Shaku's paw. It wasn't quite what she had been aiming for but it was enough that she could at least do a small amount of damage. All satisfaction was cut short as she was tossed bodily away from Shuka. In a swift movement she shot both legs out behind her and extended metallic claws outwards. Radio only skidded a foot before her claws gripped into the soil beneath the snow. Shuka shouted something out but was cut off mid sentence as Yaguu clomped down heavily on the wolf's neck. As if he weighed nothing, Yaguu tossed Shaku against a rock. She was surprised by the simple ease with which his opponent was heaved off the ground. But as if his paw hadn't been crushed between the jaws of two dogs and he had not been thrown against a rock, Shuka flung himself at Yaguu. Radio found herself somewhat annoyed at being ignored so. Throwing caution to the winds she moved to intercept the wolf. One metal clawed paw shot out and she aimed it directly for Shuka's unprotected rib cage.

Shuka growled and saw the pup jump infront of him. Bt he didn't plan on running very far. Curling into a ball, he spun like crazy, as if he was a Ninja-star and headed for Yaguu.
Yagu's eyes widened. The attack of the wolf, he knew. This was one crazy wolf. He ducked, but not fast enough. Shuka whirled overhead, blasting Yaguu with air. His powerful jaws locked on Yaguu's back, making him yell loudly. In a crazed rage, he flung his back a boulder over and over again. The snow got redder but Shuka woldn't let go, even as his spine was slammed by the boulder. His red eyes gleamed with determination.

A sharp intake of breath stretched the thin covering of skin over her bony ribs. There was not an ounce of fat on her body and her body was already beginning to eat away at muscle. Her eye's widened in a disappointed kind of surprise as Shuka made moved so easily away from her outstretched metal claws. She was annoyed that she had so underestimated the wolf and his abilities. Radio would eventually have to face the fact that she was not stronger than every dog that she came across. Over time she had come to grow far to cocky. If anything she needed to train to be a stronger fighter and if she ever wanted to see her family again, she would have to stay strong enough to survive.
Fur rose in a sharp ridge down her spine. She shivered as she saw Shuka bit his way onto Yaguu's back. And then to have his body smashed relentlessly against the unforgiving stone. Their opponents eye's were alight with a fierce glow that showed no signs of yielding. If Radio was to be of any use of all then she would need to be even more dogged than the wolf. Blood pumped thunderously in her ears and she felt her lips pull back and reveal her teeth. Priority number one had to be getting that wolf off of Yaguu. Now was the time to protect an ally and a meal. Radio sped forward with all the extra energy she could force into her fatigued muscles. Opening her jaws wide she aimed to clamp her teeth around Shuka's hind paw.

Shuka yelped a little as Radio's sharp teeth bit into his hind paw. The pain in his spine was unbarable enough and a bite from anothers teeth was to much. His jaws Released and he fell to the snow. Yaguu Slammed a hefty paw onto Shukas skull, holding him under the blanket of delicate white and red. Damn... I won't be able to walk properly for days! he growled to himself. Shuka had torn muscle in his back to shreds- Yaguu was lucky that his spine was in one peice. The open flesh on his back was getting extremely cold. Shuka yelped and struggled out of Yaguu's grasp. "I'll be back old man! And when I am, you'll be sorry!" with that, he ran off at full speed. When he was out of sight, Yaguu fell to the snow, blood still flowing from his wound. "Good job pup," he sighed. "Go- eat your prize, then. I'll stay out here."

Shuka's paw was instantly released as soon as he had let go of Yaguu's back. The combined effect of injuries to his backside and paws had been enough to finally force him into retreat. Now the wolf's head was firmly pinned under a massive and unmoving paw. There was a shift in power as their attacker was now defensive rather than trying to steal a meal. The tussle had resulted in triumph for the two dogs and a hasty retreat for the still ravenously hungry Shuka. Shuka somehow wrested himself from the larger dog and shouted and angry threat over his shoulder as he turned tail.
"I'll be back old man! And when I am, you'll be sorry!"
Radio snorted in a derisive and slightly offended tone. In her mind there wasn't much chance of the wolf besting them at all. But then that weakness of overestimating herself and underestimating her opponents. Her malcontent was interrupted as Yaguu collapsed to the snow with, what she believed, a pained flop. She became alarmed when Yaguu seemed to write his injury off without much thought.
"Good job pup," he sighed. "Go- eat your prize, then. I'll stay out here."
She shifted her position so get a better look at his damaged back. The flayed and damaged muscle was surely something to worry about. From her brief time in the winter snow she had come to realize just how useful the cold fluffy stuff really was. One day Radio had clumsily tripped over a fallen branch. A root from an oak was reaching out above the snow and she had found her hindquarters speared firmly on the tree root. As soon as she had freed herself she passed out from the pain of trying to walk a short time later. She came awake to find that snow had packed itself into the wound and staunched the flow of blood. The injury had since mended, but the lesson had remained in the forefront of her thoughts. If anything a pawful of snow would ate least numb Yaguu's pain.
"There won't be much chance of that old man." As long as he continued to call her pup then she was entitled to addressing him in a similar fashion.
She skipped lightly behind the large dog hoping to avoid any objections. Nimbly she turned her paw and used it as a sort of scoop. Radio did the best she could with her metal paw to maneuver over the wound and dropped it lightly on. "I'm going to pack this in there if you don't mind." Now as the best time to ask for permission. The act would be swift and over quickly, but no doubt it would cause some degree of discomfort.
