"Mugen" she replied to the male, sitting down as he drank. "Can I ask what yours is? I just like helping my elders." As he drank she watched as some blood dripped into the water, making her a bit more concerned but it didn't seem to pain him. It looked more like it was bothersome to him really. "Is there anything I can do for your wounds?" She wasn't that great a healer since she normally had a human for that. And when he died it was usually wait until the wounds closed themselves.
When he moved she moved in to get a quick drink as well. She didn't mind the taste of his blood inside the water at all. The water was refreshing, washing away the dry feeling in her throat after eating bear meat. Licking her face she pulled back and shook her head to get any loose drops off. That's when she noticed he was staring at her. "Something wrong?" Looking up at the sky she noticed that the sun was starting to set. It would get cooler here come night but it will also mean that a few unwanted creatures were going to be prowling. She wasn't afraid but with the male in his condition it was best to avoid anymore fighting.
"Night's coming...happen to know the way out of here?" she asked, turning her head from the sky to the male. Her one good eye blinked at him while the damaged one didn't show any emotion at all. Never did after the incident.

Enough with the pleasantries, we need to get out of here before you do attract some unwanted guests. Specifially wolves since they don't care for halfbreeds remember.. Musou mentally pushed the voice's from his mind as he looked at the sky instead of staring at Mugen. She reminded him of someone he had seen before, but he couldn't remember that far back even if he wanted to. He would dismiss that thought for now. "I'm not that much of an elder, I'm only nine. I can't wait to see what others will think of me when I'm fourteen then." He laughed a bit heartily, first time in a while. "I'm Musou." He bowed his head a little to show he respected her by name. He may be a rugged hybrid, but he still had some manners, even if they were not all what others expected them to be. Aside from that, he never really had the parents or humans to teach him how to be kind and be respectful to others. Both sides of his heritage refused him, resulting in him almost entirely turning his back on every other canine. It was a sad thought to know that even wolves can be so bitter about something that shared the same ways.
"Well, I don't exactly know where to get out of here, seeing as we're still in the middle of all this, but I know where we can find shelter for now. We'll have to back track a little bit though." He wasn't exactly fond of backtracking, but if it meant being able to sleep in peace he was up for it. Musou stretched and shook out his fur, sniffing the air this time instead of the ground, feeling the wind through his thick coat. He looked back at her when she asked if anything was wrong. "Nothing is wrong, you just remind me of somebody I once knew when I was younger. Just an old memory. Besides, this place is so hot I could be imagining things." He began to find his barings and began to back track. The foot prints began to appear in the soft ground again. Wolf. It was no doubt he was part wolf, but he could easily been mistaken for one in the distance.

"It's nice to meet you Musou" Mugen replied with a respectful bow of her head. At his small joke she let out a smile. Nine was still a bit old to her but not exactly as hold as his body and fur made him look. She looked around as he explained that he too didn't know the way out either. Damn. We're both stuck in this death infested, smelly, place. Mugen sighed before hearing he knew of some shelter. Better than nothing. "I'm alright with back tracking. We'll just have to cover more ground tomorrow to make up for loss time." She hoped that wherever they were going would be well sheltered in case it rained. And to get away from the birds who always looked too impatient to wait for their prey to die to get food.
Looking at Musou she tilted her head a bit. "Remind of you someone? Who?" She's heard that many times before from the other elders she's met on her travels. They always said she reminded them of their daughter or granddaughter, sometimes they'll say their mate or late mate. It made her feel a bit good to be able to bring some happiness to them just by her appearance but sometimes it was bad memories she brought. "It should get cooler by night but I've never been here." It could get muggy and she hated that. Almost as bad as being out under a blazing sun.
As soon as he started to walk she followed, looking at the ground as she stepped over his prints. She just wanted to see how much bigger they were then hers and it was a significant distance. "Which of your parents was a wolf, if you don't mind me asking" she asked as she tore her eyes away from his prints to look at him. She speeded up her pace in order to keep up with his stride and kept somewhat close to him. "Where by chance are you heading?" She didn't have much of a destination other then to get away from where she use to live.

Musou continued to walk, even when she asked her questionis. "I think you reminded me of someone in my family, but then again it's not the best of memories back then." His voice did not hold the grudge that many would usually hold, especially thinking upon the bitter memories of it all. He did not mind being asked about his past, but it did bring back some times when he absolutely hated remembering. At times when he was having the worst days, he wished that his mind had been blacked out so he would not remember anything of where he came from and who he was.
When asked about which of his parents was wolf, he stopped abruptly and looked at the ground for about a minute before answering. "My mother was the wolf." His voice was quiet and after a few more quiet seconds he continued to walk. It was so unfair how his siblings had been able to fit in either their mother's side o their father's side. Musou was the unlucky one. He had the trouble of being constantly picked and almost killed possibly a couple of times, mostly by his own family members. Unfortunately, Musou was the only one surviving from his known family. It was kind of fortunate that he was alive now. Otherwise he would have been of no use to any one at all. "Just anywhere really. I just want to find someplace where I can live peacefully." He gave a slight smile to Mugen as he looked at her. He was walking a little slower so that it would be easier for her to keep up with him. "And what about you? Any particular place you're headed to?" In several ways, he was glad to have some company tonight.
In the distance, a wolf howled a sorrowful tune as it tried finding its pack. Seperation was never a real good thing, but for Musou it never really bothered him. Hearing another wolf howl, he wanted to answer back but he was not part of a pack. He would most likely never be part of a pack again.

Mugen was curious about who in his family she reminded him exactly but at the mention of it being 'not the best memories,' she refrained. There was no need to bring up any of those in a place like this. Or at all really. She knew what it was like to have unpleasant memories. Perhaps not as bad as him but she had her own that she wished to never remember or go through ever again. Even if it was just in her head. Her mind was torn away from her thoughts at his answer to her other question. His mother gave him the wolf genes. That was normally the case but it could've been possible for a grandparent to be the one. She didn't think that was such a bad thing but she knew nothing of what it was like to be half wolf. If there were bad things about it she couldn't tell. Other then he was a lone wolf.
As he gave him a tiny smile she returned it unknowingly but soon frowned at his question. "I guess the same" she answered. It was clear though that she was uncertain if that's what she wanted. After being with humans and being taught by them she felt she needed to be useful in some way. "I'm also just curious about every other place. Use to live in a city most of my life..." She hardly ever talked about her past so she stopped, not liking how much she's given to him already. Looking ahead she looked around for where he was taking her. Her paws were aching a bit from constant travel and she could use a good rest. They had to get up early in order to make up for lost time today and get out.
Suddenly her head shot up as a wolf howled. Ears perked and fur bristled a bit. Another howl sounded and she looked at Musou to see at his reaction. The howl didn't sound threatening but it still felt good to her to have someone who could understand know if that was true or not. Since he wasn't on alert for the wolf she calmed down and shook herself to get her fur flat. "The howling...it sounds a bit sad...why don't you howl back?" she asked. Perhaps the wolf was apart from the pack since no other wolf returned the howl. "Or will you anger it if you did?" She knew how wolves can be to others that aren't apart of the pack. She's seen it with her own eyes on hunts. "Do you want a pack?" she suddenly asked. "I mean, I don't see you with one now...so I'm guessing that you don't have one or you're separated...forgive me, I probably shouldn't be asking." She turned her head away and started walking a bit faster. "We should just get to this shelter you mentioned."

"I've heard the city was nice if you could find a real good family to live with. Probably wouldn't be easy to fit in though when all you ever knew was the indecency of how much some humans hated animals, especially those of the inbetween." His voice was light, it did not hold the grudgey sounding voice that others would hold against humans. He had met some who had given him food, but there were almost more that would have just loved to kill and skin him for his coat. He held few grudges, mostly upon those who were related to him for what they had done. Mugen reminded the wolfdog of a hopeful mate he had once before he found out that she was part of the pack who had tried to kill once or twice. But that was long ago. This one seemed to have a decent heart, she was stubborn like many but a decent heart was better than a stone heart.
When she asked Musou the series of questions to why he would not answer back, he gave a gentle smile. "She howls for her pack. I do not belong with them and so I keep from answering back. I would not anger them, I would just only be relaying a message unneeded." He could tell she was a little uneasy about the whole thing. So, he pushed his shoulder into her a little playfully to loosen her up. "Relax, they are miles away from this area. And besides, if you don't answer the call, they won't know where you are." But it did kind of pang his heart to keep from answering back. He wanted to howl out his hearts desire, but not tonight. Tonight there was someone who needed to sleep and be watched over for a little while.
"Do you want a pack?" Those words were almost so sudden that he almost tripped over his own feet. Yes Musou. Did you ever want a pack? Or will you always be the lone wolf forever? The voice inside his head had a point. But Mew did not answer the voice. He did not answer for a minute or so as he thought about it. Would he ever truly have a pack of his own that wouldn't hate him so? But as she started walking faster, he decided not to answer anyway.
Further up ahead, he spotted the shelter and loped a little bit ahead to make sure it was still unoccupied when he had found it. He slipped inside and scoped around a bit and checked every corner. But something was living in this little den. A hiss came from a corner he had not checked yet, but he could see it clearly. One thing of being wolf was his vision was excellent in the dark. He gave a growl and the snake began to make a noise he heard one too many times before. Musou growled at it to provoke it and it worked, it lunged at him, and right at the last second, he snapped his jaws around itshead and quickly ran out of the den with it and flung it away in a direction they wouldn't be heading anytime soon. After watching it slither away, he went back in and double checked. He popped back out suddenly and sat beside the den hole and looked at Mugen with a crooked smile. "It's safe to go in. And it's high enough from ground level we won't have to worry aboutit flooding if it rains tonight." Living here for several years taught him that it was always good to have a den above ground level. Never know if it will rain or not. He waited patiently for her to enter into the den. If he slept tonight, he would stay near the mouth to keep watch.

Mugen wobbled at the push, although gentle, it was still enough to shake her up a bit. "I'm not afraid" she said with a slight huff. "I'm fine. It's just, the last wolves I saw weren't exactly very pleasant." During winter time when the food was a bit scarce one year she didn't like how the wolves decided to still a kill she made for her human. Taking on a whole pack wasn't wise but she never thought about that. Only that she needed to keep her kill for her master. Perhaps she wouldn't have gotten away with her life if it wasn't for her master but she thought she was doing excellent.
Picking up the pace a bit she wondered when they would get to this shelter. Almost as if he was reading her mind he finally moved ahead to what looked like the right spot to lay for the night. A den, something she was use to sleeping in. She was about to go in when her ears heard something. A hissing noise. She tried to peek inside but all she saw out of her good eye was darkness. But whatever it was it had to be bad because Musou was growling. Suddenly something lunged and was thrown out. She ducked and turned around, fangs bared to the threat, only to see it was a snake slithering away now.
After that she turned back to the den and watched as Musou checked the place out again. As he popped out she was really ready to get in. "That's great." Even though she had no fear of water before it was still a good thing to hear from him. She went inside and went for a spot near the back. There she curled up and rested her head on her paws, sighing. She couldn't get to sleep right away however. She wasn't use to having someone else near her while she slept so she felt a little uneasy. Her eyes darted around the den even though it was still too dark for her good eye to see. Then they landed on Musou. He could see the snake when I couldn't...must be nice to have good eyes. "I'm not use to sleeping with others around" she said. "This will be a first for me in a long while." Last time she slept with someone was with her owner.

Musou knew what she meant since he had never slept anyone after being forced from his family. Not exactly forced, he just escaped before they could do anything about it. The halfbreed watched as she settled herself down in the den and then seemed to watch him. It was almost as if being watched by those sinister eyes he had been haunted by more than once when he had been dumped on this land that he knew nothing of before. It was almost like she seemed to watch him as if she were planning on something. Stop it. You are the only one left, she is not your enemy.. Perhaps it was right. She had been the one to help him take down the bear for a decent meal. She had helped him get some water so he would not overheat. No. She wasn't an enemy to him, but if she tried to betray him before they were to part ways, they would probably both regret having to ever meet and let the other live. Musou was not one to be betrayed more than twice.
"It's alright. I've never been able to sleep around others since I left my family. Try to get some sleep, I'll keep watch so no one will bother you." Somehow, he didn't seem too confident about that, but he would watch to make sure she wouldn't be disturbed in her sleep. If he could sleep tonight it would be a miracle. Hopefully, with a bit of luck, it would rain so he could sleep outside. He loved the rain. He was probably one of the few wo would openly sleep out in the rain just to enjoy it for the little while that it comes before it gets hot again. After standing there a few seconds longer, he curled up near the mouth of the den and kept his back to her. Last thing he wanted was for someone to think he was watching them as they slept. He wasn't that crazy yet, was he?

Mugen nodded and turned her head to the other side so she faced the wall. She yawned, maw opening wide, then closed her eyes. She normally didn't trust others but she wasn't exactly completely relaxed. Her eyes may of been closed but she wasn't completely asleep yet. But she was dozing off rather quickly. Quicker then she thought she would with Musou around. Another yawn escaped the smaller female before she let her body relax. Little by little her guard was let down until finally she was in a deep slumber.
The sound of the gentle patter of rain drops starting outside only made her slumber more peaceful. It was like a lullaby to her almost. Each drop hitting the ground was very soothing to her ears. As long as there was no thunder or lightning she could sleep forever like this. Sadly the skies weren't going to keep her in this dreamy state for long. With a jolt she awoke at the loud crack of thunder. Heart beating a little faster she looked around the dark den, good eye trying to adjust to the little light in here as best it could. How long was I asleep? It felt like hours but for all she knew it was only one or two at the most. Whichever it was she knew she wouldn't be getting back to sleep anytime soon.
"Musou?" she called, eyes squinting to see if she can see his silhouette by the den entrance. Another clash of thunder sounded, making her feel like this was almost a storm. But she felt that it wouldn't last much longer. "If you're asleep I don't know how you can with all this racket going on."
((Bah! Bad post! >_<))

When the rain had started to come, when the big hybrid heard it, had stood up and went out of the den to sit in it. At first he didn't even care if someone were watching him sit there in the rain. He absolutely loved getting wet like this. Though he sat in the rain, he was still pretty much on top of the entrance so that he could still keep an eye out for anyone who may want to venture in the den. When the thunder clashed and lightning slashed through the air, he stood up and began to howl at the sky. It was long, deep winded, happy sounding and encouraging the sky on. Off in the distance, others who seemed to like the rain began to howl as well, joining him in his song of joy.
He was so caught up in howling, he did not realize Mugen was trying to talk to him. When his mind finally scolded him to respond to the other, he finally finished his song and jumped down in front of the entrance, shook his fur out and went inside. It a moment or two for his eyes to adjust, and when they did, they looked towards Mugen who seemed to be awake now. "You should try to sleep Mugen, you'll need your strength for tomorrow." Since he had been out in the rain since it first started to sprinkle, the blood that had come from his scar and the fight with the bear had been washed away. He even looked a little than he had, considering he had dirt and a little bit of dry mud on him. His red eyes watched her carefully, laying down near the mouth again, this time watching her a little, waiting to see if she wanted to talk more.

Musou seemed too preoccupied with his howling to even notice that she was there. His was soon joined by a few others and soon it sounded like some kind of band. Sighing she closed her eyes and listened to him. He had a very nice voice. Mugen listened to him for awhile before he finally came back in. "I know" she responded to him. "But loud thunder and lightning is hard for me to sleep through." Resting her head on her paws she watched him for a moment. "You have a very nice voice. But I suppose all you wolves do. It's a gift you were all blessed with as I was taught." The small female yawned, obvious still tired but mind wouldn't sleep even if she tried now. Not yet anyways.
"If it's alright with you talking will put me to rest again. You seem to like the rain despite the loud noises it comes with." Mugen wasn't always this use to this type of weather. She had to be now because of her master passing away. But someone like Musou who has been out here his whole life would seem like someone who enjoyed it. "I use to hate the rain with a passion because of all the noise. I wasn't use to it when I started living outdoors. I use to live with my human but he passed away." Normally Mugen didn't like talking about her past but older dogs weren't like the young ones. They weren't going to scoff at her or criticize, making her feel as if she should bite their puny heads off. No, most of them could relate and speak to her with much wisdom it always made her feel...calm. "I lived with him for my first two years of life. Very nice human he was. But age gets all of us sooner or later."
Mugen stopped to let out another yawn, her mind already feeling at ease enough to make her more drowsy. Her eyes closed and she looked already asleep. "...maybe I'm searching for someone else to be useful to like I was to my master..." she said softly, almost as if saying it to herself.

His awkward ears twitched a little as she commented on his voice when he howled. Somehow he felt glad that she wasn't too shy from thinking it was good, but part of him wanted him to push it out of his mind and forget she said it. He knew she only meant it as a compliment, but then again, he never could truly tell the difference between acompliment and an insult, though if he was in a certain mood he would take either as an insult and do something most uncalled for. But for now he was quite contempt with what had ben said. "Well, I don't hear that very often. Most tend to go off on their own once they figure my other heritage. When it rains, I can't help but sit in it and feel the coolness of each drop falling into my fur. It's almost like a way I can relax after something happens. It's something I quickly came to love after coming here."
When Mugen started talking about her master, he listened attentively. She really cared about him it seemed. He knew how it felt to care for something and then lose it, though he did not lose his the same way as she. The older dog pushed the thought from his mind and tried not remember what had happened. Nothing usually came out of remembering a past that would only pain and hurt oneself even further into corruption. "He sounds like he had been a very nice human." Unfortunately, Musou never really trusted humans who carried guns around enough to allow them to fully touch him and be able to walk beside him. The only and last time he had human contact was when they tranquilized him when he was younger and dumped him here on this land. He still hates them, but not all are terribly bad. After, some of the younger two-leggeds had fed him food when there was little game out in the forest surrounding the town, and when he had ventured in, they had given him food. At first he would not eat it, knowing from years of experience it could have been poison, but gradually he ate it, seeing as they ate it like he would other dog meat if he grew hungry enough for it. He never ventured into the towns again, unsure whether he should have trusted in them. A small yawn escaped his maw as he lightly stretched his muscles and layed his head on his large paws. He wanted to just sit out in the rain the rest of the night, but he would keept Mugen company, in case she were to awaken once again. He heard, though barely, what she had said quietly, but he didn't say anything to it, seeing as he had little idea to what he was looking for. He turned his body around into a position where he could look out at the rain, but able to look at the smaller fae in case she needed company further. Again, he resumed position and watched, and slowly, his eyes began to droop as sleep slowly over whelmed him.

He was...a great human. she thought in reply to his statement. If she didn't feel so bad about his passing still she might've been more willing to talk about him. Being as that wasn't the case she didn't say anything else on the subject. Hearing him move though she peeked an eye open to see he was looking outside the den, probably wanting to go back outside. Closing it she turned her head to face the wall and said, "You can go back I'll be fine." Whether or not he heard her or was asleep she didn't know. Her mind seemed to drift after that, wandering from thought to thought before finally silencing.
-------------------------------------
Mugen got dreamless sleep and it would've continued had it not been for the annoying buzzards outside making their hungry calls. Then there was the little light that this dead place got that started peeking inside and forcing her to open groggy eyes. "...stupid sun..." she grumbled, lifting her head to growl at the light. Even if it was just a little that was peeking over Musou it was an annoying thing to have something else wake you up then to wake up on your own. "And stupid birds." Another growl was issued as she got up and stretched. Front paws stretched their toes before the back did the same.
"Musou? We should go while it's early." If they were lucky and recovered the time they lost yesterday, maybe they could stop to catch something else to eat too. She wasn't really that hungry right now but she knew it was only a matter of time before her stomach started demanding a meal.

Musou had been awake ever since the sun rose just above the horizon. He did not recieve much sleep even though he had maybe a few hours. However, he did not want to move knowing he would have awoken Mugen over three times if he had ever decided to move. But he didn't. He stayed practically in the same position all night, preferring to keep her company. When the fae talked to Musou, he agreed with a heavy sigh, not wanting to move hishuge paw from his eyes. The damn sun was much too hot and bright.
Slowly, the hybrid stood and stretched as he exited the den. He stumbled a few times, having not moved much at all, and shook his fur to sit down and wait for Mugen. "From how these things were squawking, seems like we're stuck in the middle of this thing still. You ready?" He asked, standing and waiting patiently.

Mugen waited for the older canine to move out of the way. It seemed he had a few kinks in his joints though from how he stumbled while she followed him out. "It seems so" she replied, trying her best to hold back a yawn. It wasn't that she was tired. More like her body was bored with all this standing or laying. It wanted to do something else. Looking around she let out a growl at the watching birds. Their beady black eyes seemingly to look past her and right to what they wanted. "Damn buzzards" she retorted as she huffed. To her it was almost as if they were hiding a secret, their cawing their form of laughter for how oblivious the dogs were.
She ignored the crazy thoughts and felt it was this place that was making her mind think things like that. Birds were birds, hungry birds hung around food. They had no other thought in their beady brains other then that. "Lets go, the faster the better." With that said she quickly set off at a steady run, knowing the older dog could keep up. Her nose picked up what little scent there was after the rain. But despite that she still felt a bit lost when trying to retrace their steps to continue where they left off. "Rain really does know how to piss me off" she said as she nearly had to press her nose to the mud to get a good scent trail.
Sniffing around she suddenly saw something blur past from her blind side to her good eye. It made her snap at the air to her left. But there was nothing there. She looked around, swearing she saw something rush past the trees around them but she saw nor smelled anything. "Musou...do you think we have company?" she asked, ears lowering. She made no move to hide it from this other creature (if there was another following them) that she knew of their prescence.
