A streak of black and white flashed through the air. Her jaws closed on the bird's neck and the rest of the was gone in a flash. One clumsy bird caught her check with it's beak as it took to the air, another scraped her paw. However, Natallie was used to these tiny scratches these days. She'd been hunting birds as long almost as long as she could remember. She shook her prey violently a couple times, ensuring that the thing was dead before she dropped it to the ground to run her paw over her paw wound; she couldn't reach the one on her face. She'd have to find a stream for that.
Natallie gently picked the bird up again and moved back into the shadows of the trees. She was a little nervous, the scent of blood sometimes attracted bears. The border collie had no training in bear fighting, or fighting in general, so she wasn't too eager to take on a bear on her own.
After a few minutes of wandering around the trees in search of a nice place to stop and have her meal she found a spot. There was a thin river, soft grass bordering it on either side. Plus, there was no canopy of trees so the sun could shine down and warm her fur, not to mention she enjoyed the way her pelt dazzled in the sun's rays. Natallie settled in a spot near the water, lapping at the surface with her tongue a couple of times, then dipping her cheek in to rinse off the blood. She shook her head to dry out her long fur a bit and then pulled away the feathers on the belly of the bird.

A wakazashi shined in the sunlight. It was strapped to the back of a wandering warrior. Hero was a pure bred Akita Inu with a striking coat design. He was the leader of a great pack, but for now he was simply a loner with a cause, following a thin stream in a forest.
A nearby flock of birds fluttered into the air. He stopped in his tracks, body tense and his nose twitching for answers. Yellow aged eyes searched the surrounding greenery. It was scenic and picturesque. Other than the sudden outburst of movement, everything was calm.
Hero's mind raced with the prospect of possible wrong doing afoot. The black and white hound took a solemn oath to travel the lands and fulfill his purpose to protect others and to put his life to good use. A hacking cough sounded from his muzzle. It tore through his chest, causing him to buckle to the ground. A pink tongue lolled out to get more needed air into his lungs.
He grunted at himself for showing such weakness. White nails clawed at the earth for support to stand again. Hero used his short Japanese sword as a crutch to be on all fours again. He took a few more breaths to steady himself. Hero wasn't a young dog anymore...

Natallie looked up, ears perkered forward, and a slightly puzzled look on her face. She rand her pink tongue over her lips to get the blood off and swallowed the mouthful of bird meat she'd been chewing. She wasn't particularly starving, and it's not like she couldn't just catch another animal to feed on if this one was taken...
So she wandered upstream, she'd heard the coughing and hacking of what sounded like another dog. Natallie found him, not to far from where she'd been resting. He seemed a bit older than her, and the same colors. Yet her simple pattern wasn't very impressive next to the intricate designs that decorated this male. He was propping himself up with what appeared to be a weapon, this made her a little nervous, but hopefully he was smart enough to notice she posed no threat. The border collie walked over to this other dog.
"Hello, err, my name's Natallie," she introduced with a kind smile and respectful dip of her head. This dog was probably once a great warrior. Or at least pretty skilled in battle...those were the kind of dogs that usually wielded weapons. Here she was; hardly could put up a fight as is.
"Do you...need any help?" she asked, trying to sound like she was only asking because it was the polite thing to do and she was honestly worried about him, not because she was afraid his health was slipping or something. Noticing those flaws could hurt a dog's pride.

The air seemed to escape his mouth, he found it difficult to take in oxygen. A few more coughs sounded and make his whole body shake. He cleared his throat and coughed again, this time a small amount of blood came with it. A dollop of dark crimson landed on some nearby bush. The contrast of the substance on its lush green leaves seemed to serve as a reminder of Hero's looming death. His yellow eyes tightened and fillled distantly with emotion. He had an oath to keep, and he was far to stubborn to let an ailing body to let his spirit from accomplishing what he was meant to do. Suddenly there came a female. She had a sweet face and clever, amicable eyes. Hero's yellow met her odd colored eyes. Black and white, was her coat. Her face had a black mask that contrasted against the pure white, it was the feature that he was struck by as rather odd. She did not have a very intricate coat as he, it had its own simplistic beauty however. He was really attracted to the way her coat seemed to shimmer in the light, it cascaded prettily in the light. The Akit glanced at her slim dainty build, she was very young. He liked the way her ears folded around her face and the way one ear was tipped with white, it gave her a very cute and innocent look. "Hello, err, my name's Natallie." And respectful, as well. Hero dipped his head to the female as she bowed hers in respect. He kept his eyes trained on her however, it was a force of habit really. A life alone and always on the edge can turn a dog into a social blunder. "Do you...need any help?" Hero gruffly cleared his throat, he did not want to appear feeble to this young lady. His head reared back up to its full height, he was definetly taller and bigger than her. His cold eyes spotted a trace of blood on the lower part of her jaws, "What happened?" he asked in a deep paternal voice.

Natallie jumped slightly when he began coughing again, it seemed he couldn't get enough air and his whole body was shaking. Then something flew out of his mouth, she followed it with he eyes until she noticed a spot of red against a green bush. Her eyes widened a little, but she didn't say anything about it.
He returned her bow with an acknowledging dip of his head. Still, he seemed to keep his eyes locked on her, as if she wasn't trustworthy. Then again, she should expect it, you never could quite tell who was friendly out here...and who wasn't.
At her offer of help he cleared his throat and held his head up. He was actually very tall and rather stunning to look at. She could hardly believe this was the dog that had been coughing up blood only moments ago. Natallie tilted her head, jaw slightly dropped. Surely there was a glimmer of adoration in her eyes.
"What happened?"
She ran her tongue over her lower jaw, the taste of blood met her tongue. It was the blood of her catch, the bird. "Oh, I was eating before..." She didn't include that she'd abandond her snack to check on him. He seemed like a proud dog, didn't want to come off as weak. She simply flicked her tail and dismissed the rest of what she was going to say. "So what were you doing around here?" she asked curiously, still, she didn't know much about this dog. Even a name hadn't been given, but she didn't mind.[/color]

There was something in her purple eyes, he could almost see the comical sparkles of adoration in those pretty twin orbs. Hero suddenly became very uncomfortable, the seasoned warrior knew how to kill a another animal in several different ways, but when it came to females.... The Akita was hopelessly clumsy. "Oh, I was eating before..." Simply put, and it did make sense. The blood smelled like that of a bird and not of a dogs. The commotion before surely belonged to her as she hunted and made her kill. It was all to clear to Hero now, it bothered him however that he did not recognize it before. Why? Were his senses failing or was it that he was just getting to be an old dog. No, that can't be it, he thought, I still have plenty of years left in me... If that was true... then... His eyes suddenly darted to the splotch of coagulated blood on nearby leaves. He forced his gaze back onto the female before himself. "So what were you doing around here?" "Wandering." he said shortly in a deep voice. He suddenly wished he could take back his words. Being out and alone made him often forget that one needs to treat others with a certain amount of respect. It does tie into my oath.... I must be a better dog... "Natallie, was it not? May I ask you why it is that you are out here un-escorted?" No, try again, that was far too forward. A paw shifted uncomfortably as he looked at the ground, ashamed of himself. "Please excuse me, I do not come into contact with many other dogs, so I have a terrible vice of being socially aggressive. I am not often in the presence of someone so..." Hero looked at her again; light purple eyes, small muzzle, puppy dog ears and a dazzling coat. "Beautiful..." She looks so much like Mizu... The dog that he was thinking about was his past wife. She was also a black and white Akita, light and dainty with a sweet voice, the similarities between her and Natille were startling. The widowed male would think of her briefly from time to time. He tried his best to forget her. Thinking of the past only brought back melancholy for the older dog. His yellow eyes softened, thinking of times past. It is not right of me to compare her to my wife...

The male seemed a bit uneasy, which made her a little nervous. But she forced herself to act completely calm; surely he wouldn't want her notice.
"Wandering."
So that's what he was doing...it made sense. That's what she would've answered to a question about why she was out here had she not been hunting. The forest was a nice place to roam, she enjoyed the canopy of the trees and the streams, the forest was an overall nice place to be. His voice was so deep and strong. She had to admit, it was kind of entrancing, and went well with his beautiful coat pattern.
"Natallie, was it not? May I ask you why it is that you are out here un-escorted?"
She thought for a second, but before she thought of a reply and got it out of her mouth he was speaking again...
"Please excuse me, I do not come into contact with many other dogs, so I have a terrible vice of being socially aggressive. I am not often in the presence of someone so...beautiful"
"Oh, it's okay...I hadn't really noticed that you were being socially aggressive," she smiled warmly, showing that there really were no hard feelings. "I was just hunting...I don't usually hang around with anyone in particular, to be honesty, I don't know many other dogs around here..." She glanced to the side, hopefully the male wouldn't think she was a social outcast or something, she just hadn't been in this part of the country for too long.
He called her beautiful...she wasn't sure how to respond. Even if she'd heard it before, Natallie still didn't quite know how to respond to such kind compliments. So she just sort of blushed and looked down, though it was barely noticeable through her dark fur.
The older dog seemed slightly distracted, like his mind may be in another place and time. She tilted her head slightly, displaying a curious expression. Curiosity got the best of her, as usual, and she asked, "Pardon my asking...what's on your mind? I mean...You don't have to tell me. I just sort of...wondered what it was," really, she didn't expect him to give her an answer. But who knew.

Natille looked down and by the looks of her posture, she was not the most comfortable to his remark. The older dog simply bite his tongue and told himself that he needed to be more careful about his choice of words.
"I was..." Should I tell her? There was a genuine concern in her voice. She didn't seem the type to gossip and she had caught Hero in a particularly weak moment. The Akita presented himself with a strong aura, but he was not invincible. Some might even go on to say that he is a rather depressed dog at times."Thinking about my wife. Or at least when she was alive... She died a long time ago, along with the rest of my pack and family. Everyone I knew was slaughtered my a miscommuntication... And it was all my fault..." A wash of regret seemed to age his finely chiseled features and rue filled his eyes. "However, that was the past. A warrior does not dwell on the past, he must always look forward.... And hold true to his oath.." For Hero, his purpose was more than a way of life, it was his lifeline to the world. A touchstone that kept the older hound moving and wandering from place to place, through all the hunger and cold of a solitudinal existence.
"Speaking of which, answer me if it is with your consent that I were to... ahem... to be your escort. A lady such as yourself should not wander these lands alone. There could be savage dogs lurking about." Hero straightened his shoulders, to make his profile stand out more and he held his head high once again, he wanted to make himself seem more like a suitable guard...
