Kana had heard the ground leak around his leg and the suction of it swallowing the leg. As the wave began to overtake Fabius she planned it all out. When she heard him break the surface she put it to action.
She took off as fast as she could, though she knew it was going to make her plan hurt a hell of a lot worse. Kana leaped full throttle onto the stone, using the same tactic she used at the canyon. Instead of up she aimed back. Her lithe frame jumped backwards and snagged the going under Fabius by the scruff. "Try not to scream," she said muffled by his fur. Then Kana's assassin primed teeth locked into his scruff and the salty taste of blood whispered in her mouth.
She kept him above water while fighting to keep herself up to. His metal leg was hard on her muscles. Kana was built to run not fight or haul dogs around like prey. Kana's eyes smoldered as she sighted the wave's direction. It was thundering towards the mesa and the bare trucks of old trees, killed by the heat, leaned against it. With a sly smirk she let the wave take them.
Just as she thought the wave's force knocked over the tree trunks and she lined herself up with one. "HOLD ON!" She growled loud enough for him to hear through his fur. This is going to leave a bruise. The wave cascaded her into the tree and her legs set to work pulling her from the water onto the bare trunk. With a heave she thrust her shoulder and sent Fabius into the air and onto a patch of dry ground... the mesa. Kana clawed up to the top of the mesa with him and collapsed, passed out from the exert.

Fabius felt sick, he had swallowed enough water to earn it. He was drifting in and out of consciousness when a sharp pain tore through the nape of his neck and he heard Kana's voice through flooded ear canals. "Try not to scream." He probably would've, but he was weakend from battling currents and fluid had entered his lungs too much to utter an audible sound.
He could feel he legs working to keep them afloat, but all of a sudden he felt himself airborne. That is until he hit the ground. The impact awakened his lungs and he half coughed, half urped up water from his various body systems and lay there with a grown. Glanceing around him, he saw Kana collapse near the edge of the mesa.
Gathering his strength, he crawled over to her, body still weeping from the wound on his neck. When he reached her exhausted body, he gently grabbed her own scruff and dragged her away from the edge. Once he figured they were safe, he let go and his legs finally gave out. His head landed near hers, looking through heavy lidded eyes, he said in a hoarse voice, "Thank you..." before passing out himself.

Kana shifted slightly as she was dragged from the edge, but her mind was blank and her body limp. Every muscle in her lithe frame burned and ached. Her every breath made her throat and lungs scream. The once sleek and shiney pelt was ruffled and layered in clay residue from the flood waters.
As the floods passed the sun was directly above them, that morning the flood had forced them there and the few hours of sleep she got refreshed Kana a bit. Her eyes fluttered open, the purple irises and the coal colored pupils landed on Fabius. His nose was about two inches from her face and she blinked wondering if he had laid there on purpose or merely could go no farther.
With her narrow snout she nudges his muzzle, "Fab... the flood's gone. You alri-" She had tried to continue, but she merely ducked her head and coughed. The ravenous sound echoed in her chest and made her voice raspy. Kana proped herself up weakly on one leg and looked around with her eyes narrowed. Her head swam and she laid back down, still to worn to stand. Kana looked over Fabius to make sure he had no injuries... she could feel a splinter in her side as she checked him over. Her eyes glanced at the splinter... okay the giant shard of wood making her leg bleed. Shit.

Fabius murmured when Kana nudged his muzzle, and his eyes opened as if he'd been in a deep sleep. Looking at her, he followed her gaze to her side where a good sized piece of slintered wood was sticking out, dropplets of blood were sprinkled the dirt beneath it.
His eyes widened and he struggled to his feet, steadying himself once he got up before going to inspect her wound. He wasn't injured badly, besides the cuts in his neck from Kana's teeth he only had bruises around his body, and his wrist felt sprained which made him limp slightly as he moved. His lungs were still on fire and his stomach might as well have drank a gallon of saltwater, but nothing was broken, no damage done that couldn't heal.
Lowering his head for a closer look, he came up with two ideas. First it could be a shallow flesh wound and looked worse than it was, or two it was deep and the slinter was plugging the blood flow and would be worse than it looked once removed. Unfortunately there was really only one, probably painful way to find out which, pulling the damn thing out. Without looking at her her said, "This needs to come out. Do you want it fast or slow?"

Kana watched him stagger to his paws slowly. Her eyes caught the small limp in his walk as he shuffled over to inspect the splinter. Her ears flattened a bit when he asked which way she wanted the damned thing to come out. She mulled it over: rip muscle and be crippled with pain, blood flow returns and the flood waters turn red, or just one hell of a pull.
"I'm not good with pain and I'll end up attacking you if you it hurts slowly. Get it over with... I'm going to chew through my tongue in the mean while." she barked lowly. Kana wasn't the best dog when it came to pain, she hid it well, but it took a load onto her already weak enough frame. She was accuracy and speed, not strength and endurance. She bit her lip and nodded for him to take it out.

((Sorry for the short post, I wanted see Kana's reaction before I went further.))
Fabius heard her decision, and the way she described why, he was glad she had went with fast. Gently, he clamped his jaws on the wet, bloody 'splinter.' He debated whether or not to count to three out loud, but decided it would probably be best to let it be a surprise. With a snap of his neck, he yanked the thing out, though it was a little tougher than he thought. It almost took two pulls to get it out all the way. No doubt it was painful. 'Surprise.' Even with a sprained paw, he managed to get out of the way quickly in case she attacked him anyway.

Kana tensed as his teeth gripped the splinter. She tasted a bit of blood, noticing her teeth were cutting into her lip slightly. With a deep breath she waiting while he debated when to pull it out. When she felt him tear it out she snarled and clenched her jaws tight. Kana craned her neck, tilting her head away from the target of the pain. Kana reined in her anger towards the pain and shook it off. Their travles were going to be hard with her leg injured. Her legs and teeth were her existance... okay besides her temper. "Thanks..." she growled from behind locked teeth.

Fabius spat out the soggy, bloody piece of wood before replying, "Anytime." He figured that whatever reaction she was going to have from the pain had already happened so it was probably safe to approach. The wound looked nasty, but he guessed it hurt a hell of alot worse then it looked. "Try to stand when you're ready."
Limping to the edge of the mesa, the water looked like it was receding, but it left a huge mess in it's wake. There were down trees, mud everywhere, and even the bodies of some unforunate creatures not blessed by mother nature with either speed or brains enough to find safety from the unexpected flash flood. With or without injuries, it was going to be slow going for the two Dobes, and it didn't help that he had no idea where they even were. Fabius hoped that Kana was as good a tracker as she said, because the water possibly washed away any trace of helpful scent, trails and for all he knew the only bridge across that god forsaken canyon. His gaze found the horizon and he simply stared at it, wondering how they were going to get back to the packlands and swearing that he was never going to wander this far from it again....

Kana sighed heavily, lowering her head to clean to the wound out, "Let's hope that 'anytime' won't be ANY time. Ever." She scowled, licking away the salty tasting blood. Her purple orbs lifted as she stood. The wound stung and her leg shuddered under her weight, but she shook it off and limped after him. Kana stopped at the edge of the mesa with him, scanning the horizon, the terrain, and any possible hint of a helpful wind or landmark.
"If I can pick up a scent on the wind we can use it. I can map out from the ocean to the pack lands. It would be nice if we could find the packlands directly, but hey I guess with our CURRENT luck we arn't getting the high road." she barked lowly. With a huff she leaped off the edge of the mesa, landing on a log. The dead tree trunk creaked under her and swished in the slowly lowering water. "Coming or not Fab? Unless you want to swim?" Kana smirked at her own cleverness. They would have to let the current take them, but other than that it would be smooth sailing.

Fabius glared at Kana from the edge of the mesa, his thin, pointed ears lay flat against his skull. "Oh hardy har. You are so funny Kana," the remark oozed sarcasm.
Carefully, he jumped from safe, dry ground onto the floating log. When his weight hit the makeshift boat it rocked in the water beneath it and Fabius dug his claws into the wood like a cat for more support, or maybe it was security.
Glancing quickly at Kana, he straightened himself out, in vain hope of retaining what was left of his dignity. Once he recomposed himself, he used a hind foot to push the log away from the mesa, letting the current carry it away. Smirking at Kana, he pointedly asked, "So, which way, Magellan?"

Kana smirked at her success. With that she ripped one of the only remaining branches of the side and used it to push the log off with Fabius. Idiot, he shook the entire log, but she overlooked that. A huge grin emerged on her face at his cat-like pose. ”What’s wrong Fabius? Afraid of a little H2O?” She purposely slung some water on his head while paddling. Ha, ha Magellan. How cute… Besides feeling like slapping him upside the head it was a good plan. He certainly weighted a lot, but the log was still freshly killed by the flood so it was strong enough to take the job. The Doberman’s were risking a lot by trying this. If the current got bad and Fab fell, he was a goner. Kana, in all rights, was strong, but not enough to pull him and his metal leg to the surface. Much less keep the two of them afloat.
Her purple eyes glimmered at the horizon. The mesa’s were changing from mountainous mesas… to a canyon. The river of flood water was flowing towards the Hollows! ”Fab… looks like we won’t have that much trouble. The river’s taking us home.” Kana felt like crying. The first thing she was doing was telling Hat that Fabius was an idiotic asshole, that he saved her life, that she saved his, and that she was going to hibernate for a year. Only problem now… was braving the currents. Going downhill on a rocking log in a river full of debris sounds like so much fun doesn’t it? Well Fabius and her were about to find out. Oh joy.

Fabius narrowed his dark eyes at Kana's comment about his fear of water. 'Tsh, yeah. Hard to believe I want to avoid tangling with something that can kill me without trying,' he thought bitterly. He watched her break off a branch and start using it to paddle, glancing around their raft he saw it was the only one. Not wanting to appear a slacker, he slowly lowered himself until he was laying on the log. Digging his metal claws into the thick wood for balance, he took flesh leg and gingerly placed it into the cold river, paddling slowly.
Fabius heard Kana tell them they were heading straight for their packlands and let out a deep sigh of relief. The first thing he was doing was telling the Boss that Kana was a crazy bitch, that he saved her life, that she saved his, and that he was going to stay at least ten feet from any water that wasn't a puddle. However, he may not get that chance as soon as he hoped.
A strange sound caught his attention, it sounding like roaring hiss. 'Please just be a large snake eating a bear...' he thought to himself. When he looked up, though, he instead saw a group of rough rapids that made his stomach churn. Further down from them though, he saw something that made him let out a gasp. About a mile away, the ground dropped off into oblivion. In a voice just above a whisper, he said just in word, "Waterfall...."
