Goldie was amazed at how quickly he picked something up. She rushed over and put a black nose to the ground. She mimicked the same thing he did, first closing her eyes... She concentrated, ears went to side shutting off to focus on another sense. The wonderful aroma of earth, grass and water filled her nostrils. Ever so slightly the smell of a herbivore wafted.
Her ears went forward, "Aspen, I can smell it." Goldie tried her best to conceal her excitment. Learning to hunt was a very tantalizing idea. If she had known how to hunt before, perhaps Ritzuka would have had a better chance of survival...
"I will follow, you lead Mr. Aspen," Goldie whipered with good humor...

"Excellent," he remarked quietly when she found the scent. He was pleased at just how closely she was paying attention to his actions. He sensed her excitment and felt it himself. Goldie's last remark made him chuckle and he replied, "Very well, Miss Goldie." Aspen proceeded forward at an easy trot, or rather lope as trotting was difficult for a three-legged dog. "The deer are far enough away that we don't need stalk yet, it would take to much time to get there. Just watch what I do, when we get close enough I won't be able to tell you much without spooking the deer," he quietly instructed.

The feel of dirt beneath her feet, the wind that promised abundance of food in seductive whispers, it was enough to make Goldie want to prance around like and idiot. What a nice dog Aspen is! Then again, I really haven't met many three legged dogs! she thought grinning while taking his orders to follow at an easy trot. Her paws etched out a ready rhythm. Her tongue lolled out in anticipation, It won't be long, I can feel it- Soon I'll be proving myself a worthy to Aspen. Her golden eyes, stared at his rather lopping progress, I really want to show someone as decent as him that I' an okay dog... It feels a little selfish, but... Well, enough of all those serious thoughts, Let's just have fun for now!

Aspen led Goldie across the field into the long grasses and over a hill. At one point the wind changed direction and he ajusted their coarse so that they were downwind, the scent of tasty deer was getting strong. He slowed down to an easy walk and raised his head just high enough to see over the foliage, which wasn't much considering his size. There ahead of them was a small heard of does grazing peacefully. Quietly he sat on the soft dirt and watch the herd. The does moved only enough to reach the next few blades of grass just out of their reach, but eventually patience paid off once again. It was slight, but he noticed a limp in one of the doe's front legs, perhaps from a recent injury. He looked over at Goldie and nodded towards the doe, signing for her to watch it and see what he saw. Then he waited for a signal that she had understood his motion.

Finally, Goldie and her lovely companion Aspen made it. All those buffets on four legs. Her mouth watered, Goldie could almost taste their succulent flesh in her mouth. Her golden eyes studied Aspen's posture. She mimicked sitting on her hunches as he was and watched the deer. All were female does, grazing blissfully in the sunshine, tentatively nibbling on individual blades of grass.
Aspen's brown eyes glanced back at her, awaiting her response. Goldie's dark blue head shifted from him to the dear. What does he want me to see?
Finally her eyes caught the subtle hint of an injured deer. One of it's front legs had a limp. Goldie nodded to Aspen silently, I got it. We're going after the lame one.
She got as close as she could to the ground. Okay, we have aquired the target.... Now what? We stalk... right?

((OOC- luv the new sig ^^D. The new one of Goldie fits her personality better;) And yeah a new character!)) Aspen scrunched onto the ground next to Goldie and put his mouth close to her ear and whispered. "Now, you wait right here, and I'll sneak around to the other side over by those trees." He hinted to a small grove on the opposite side of the herd and continued, "Because you can probably react quicker than I can if it decides to change directions. I'll chase them towards you and when that one is close run up and go for the throat. I'll catch up to help after that. Don't take your eyes off of that one and use your nose, it will get pretty crazy once all of them start running. I trust you." With that he gave her one last smile of reassurance and slinked off into into the grass. It was more of a mouthful of instuctions then he'd liked, but knowing how important this was to Goldie, it would have broke his heart if something happened that made their hunt a failure. Before he knew it, he was in the grove and he checked the herd for the injured doe. She was in front of him dead center, an interesting choice of words. Aspen poised himself from stalk mode to chase mode, feet planted in the dirt, head low and level with his body. 'I hope she's ready,' he silently told himself and counted to three in his head. One.....two.....three!! He burst out of the hedge like a rabid badger slobbering, growling, and barking at the top of his lungs and made a beeline straight for the doe before any of them realized what hit them. As planned the all started running away from the snarling, three-legged, golden beast and straight for the grass he'd left Goldie. There were butterfllies in his stomach as he waited for her to make her move.

((OoC:: Thanks! Crappy editing though, Photoshop has failed me again...lol, I wish I could make it into an single pik ; Yeppers, Cerule, I was thinking of making a new thread to introduce him....)) Goldie followed his instructions, nodding occasionally to show that she was following his words. Thankfully, her life as a farm hound allowed her to think about his orders and visualize them. What if I fail... "I trust you." She returned her own warm smile. And with that he turned tail and slinked off. Goldie dug her claws into the dirt, tense and ready for action. She could hear her heartbeat in her own ears as it thumped loudly in her chest. Her blue ears went sideways, I sure do hope those deer can't hear my heart racing...It all happened to quickly, Aspen was amazing. He sprung out of the green brush like a wild animal, barking madly heading straight for the injured doe. The mod of all those four legged beasts ran straight toward her. Goldie realized for the first time that she might get trampled under all those hooves. She kept her yellow eyes trained on the weak one, keeping her self low. The deer would steer away from her to keep from tripping, and it was too late for the hurt one. They were all too distracted from Aspen chasing. Goldie lept up with her fangs, they found flesh. She had her jaws locked around the area just behind its face. It staggered and struggled to get free. No, I won't let go! The doe wheezed for air desperately, her teeth held tight. It buckled, the injured leg gave out and the animal fell to the ground. Goldie thrashed her head frantically trying to end its poor misery...

((OOC - if you wanted to, I could put them into a single pic for you like I did with mine. I'm not a genius in Photoshop, but I know a few things. All you would need to do is email them to me and tell me what you'd want the background like. ^^))
As Aspen continued to bear down on the herd, he kept repeating the mantra "don't hurt her, don't hurt her, don't hurt her" quietly under his breath. Then he saw Goldie leap from her hinding spot and clamp her teeth around the doe's neck with perfect aim. The doe fell and continued to thrash about, trying to break free with Goldie struggling to end it. At last he reached them and immediately went in to help as he promised. With quick precision he grasp the nape of the deer's neck and in a few shakes successfully broke the bone just as his father had taught him. The thought brought back a wave of memories. "That was amazing, you were great, I don't think I could've done it any better!" he exclaimed with ragged breath. He looked blissfully into the blue sky and saw an eagle pass over them. A soft breeze swept across through his mane-like rough and he sighed. "This reminds me of the time my father took me on my first hunt." Aspen looked back at Goldie and licked the blood from his muzzle. "Well, I'm starved, let's dig in." He did just that tearing a small chunk of flesh and fur and chowed down, savoring the tenderness of it.

((OoC:: That would be great! ;D I just might do that... If I knew how to email piks... Would you mind telling me how? And don't worry about a background ^^; If you could just make those three piks into one single sig-pik - THAT would be amazing! )) Goldie was shaking like mad, but the doe continued it raspy cries for help. She felt terrible, the way it's shuddering moans shattered the peaceful silence of the grassy meadow. It reminded her of the way Ritzuka was before he died, still alive in the jaws of a bear. And then, Aspen was there, with one swift action of his teeth, he broke its neck in a loud pop. The deer went limp and its head landed heavy on the ground. She excitedly wiggled at his compliment, "Aw, c'mon! I could have never done it if it weren't for you, Aspen. Thanks." Goldie watched Aspen with a mixture of curiosity and awe. He lifted his head to the sky, his muzzle drenched in blood. Finally he spoke, "This reminds me of the time my father took me on my first hunt." He just talked about his father, she was impressed. "Your father taught you?" Goldie wanted to ask where his father was, however she felt that it was a tender subject, much better left untouched. Goldie layed down to allow her tongue to loll out of her mouth to allow more air to enter her lungs. Man, that took alot outta me... "You go ahead and eat, I'm gonna take a breather." The cool grass was blissful on her warm body. The scars on her chest constricted her breathing slightly. She licked the blood from her teeth, tasting the sweet iron tang of its flesh. Mmm, tasty! Her yellow eyes wandered off to the rolling hill and trees as she said, "Never knew how to hunt, I was just a ranch hound. Herding big animals and being a pet." A voice broke her nostalgia, "H-Hey!!" it shouted, "What do you think your doing here?" Goldie looked back to see three dogs. One rottweiler, a hound mix and a large blue pure Dane. The brown eyes of the rottie was blazing and shifting quickly. The hound was looking from Aspen to Goldie with increasing interest as he looked at the deer. The large blue Dane, however, was gazing off in the distance, almost trying to ignore everyone. Goldie was taken a back. "What?" The rottweiler snapped back with a growl, "This is our turf, and you've killed of our deer!" he intensified those few words. He grew bolder, "So, step away from our kill or else!" He bared his fangs.

((OOC- I'll send you some instructions in a pm. OOHH I did NOT see that coming!! Is this Cerule? who are the other dogs? where am I?? I'm just gonna shut up and wait until next post 'cause i'm not getting answers this way. 8O))
Aspen was about to say something when a small group of dogs came and spoiled the dinner party. "This is our turf, and you've killed of our deer!" At first he didn't say anything but went to stand protectively in front of Goldie. "What seems to be the trouble...gentlemen? Dogs can't own wild deer whether they're in your turf or not. Which we weren't aware. And this is OUR kill because WE killed it. See how that works? Or didn't yo momma teach you that logic." Aspen wanted to growl, raise his hackles, and say a few choice words that he shouldn't in front of a female. But he was taught better than that, and he wanted to be careful and not do anything that would risk any harm to Goldie. "Now, we're sorry we're in your territory. I would like to offer that we go with some of OUR kill, leave the rest for you fine....gentlemen, and we don't need to have any trouble. What do say?" If Aspen had fingers, he'd cross them, but he hoped that his offer accepted. Otherwise he would take them all on if he had to.

((OoC:: Lol, wouldn't you like to know? jk, yeah thats CC alright. As for the other two, well they are just NPCs that I created....)) The rottwieler tensed and growled at Aspen's insult and said, "Y-yeah well... You guys might have killed it, but...." his eyes shifted nervously, as his mind raced for some snappy retort. "But since we're the Lords of the land here....So there, WE get to have the biggest share of that juicy doe you got there!" His black muzzle filled with bleach white teeth began to salivate profusely. Tendrils of moisture dripped down to wet the ground as he stepped forward. Goldie stood up for her comrad Aspen, "He's right. But, you guys still shouldn't shove us around like that. It's not our fault," She knew that this was a bad idea, but for some reason she became emboldened. When it came to food for others, Goldie didn't like to back down. She hoped that her plan would work. The mere thought of Aspen hurt sent shivers down her spine. "In fact, we didn't even smell you guys' scents untill just now." Her yellow eyes blazed as the forward dog's ears suddenly shot back with guilt. "Who are you to be asking us? There are only two of you and three of us." the hound mix unexpectantly spoke up. Goldie noted his exceptionally keen eyes. So, there's a big blue brute-a silent strong type guy. The male had said nothing, occasionally his ear would flip in the direction of someone talking loudly, the only way that could identify that he was even noticing them all. His deep blue eyes continued to gaze off into the endless green of the land. Then there's these two. The big rottwieler is loud and overbearing. But this one... She stared into the hound's seemingly vacant twin orbs. They glinted at a inward intelligence. Like a puppeteer, he must be controlling these guys from behind a curtian. Usining others as both bait and shield. Her eyes narrowed as she kept eye contact, challening him. How....horrible..."Yeah... King's right, there is more of us!" the rottwieler's tail wagged. "So hand our meal over and back off before I kill you!" He lunged forward, wanting to give Goldie a sample of his rage. Before anyone could react, the large blue dane had the brown and black dog by it's neck. "That's enough, Rex," his voice was as cold as the middle of the ocean, and just as deep. It was as though you could feel it, as well as hearing it. "We do not hurt females under any circumstance, understood?" The rottwieler struggled for air. "Enough Cerule," the hound mix, King said authoritive. The blue dane snorted and released his 'comrad.' The rottie fell to the ground and gasped for breath. "You...You ....Fxxking ...bastard..!" he managed to croak out.

Aspen felt hope when the Rott seemed like they were going to accept his offer, and even when Goldie spoke up and made him feel guilty. And then the bubble burst when the Hound opened his mouth. When he saw the Rott lunge towards Goldie he was about to push her out of the way, but was surprised when the Dane seemed to turn on his own pack member. 'At least someone in this lot has some morals.' Aspen thought sarcastically after hearing the Dane's words. He looked down at Goldie, noticing her fixed gaze and nudged her gently with his shoulder and gave her a pleading look not to anything rash that could give the dogs a reason to attack them. After eyeing 'Rex' to see if he tried anything again, he spoke to 'King,' since it appeared he was their superior. "We don't want to fight. We will agree to..Rex's plan to leave you the largest share. My friend and I went through alot of trouble to get this doe, and we simply ask that you let us leave with some of the spoils. Though seeing as you seem to be in charge here," he motioned to King," we will negotiate with your terms." He would fight if he had to, but with it being three against two and the latter being tired and hungry their odds were against them.

The hound nodded at Aspen's words, as a look of superiority and contempt washed over the hounds face. "You see, Rex?" King spoke deliberately while staring at Goldie, "I promised you a meal, and now you have received it." The rottwieler, Rex, was still struggling to his feet, anger pumping through his veins.
Goldie turned to Aspen's touch, "I am so sorry," she felt terrible, that this whole mess was all her fault. If I hadn't been so childish wanting to go hunt for a large animal, all of this would have never happened...
Cerule, the regal dane, strode up to both Goldie and Aspen. "I apologize for my... pack mates attitude, he seems to have trouble controlling himself." His voice was just as deep, but this time it had a hint of plea in it. He bowed his head down to show his admittance.
Rex locked onto his neck as it was down. "I'LL KILL YOU!! KILL YOU!!" the dog trembled with rage as his head shook, trying to hut Cerule. "No! REX! Stop this!! You're ruining everything!" King shouted trying to control the oblivious dog.
"So, it comes to this, has it?" A rumble, like the onset of a storm vibrated the air. The dane leaned and rolled over and put all his weight on his attacker. There was a popping noise and a horrible scream. Cerule rose, not feeling the vicious bite on his neck, "Had enough?"
Somehow the dog's jaws were broken. They were open and lopsided as his tongue rolled out helplessly. He whimpered as King roared, "CC!! Do you see what you have done?! That is it! I have tired with your insolence, you're out of this pack!" he added, "You will leave here, now... without 'your share.'"
He smirked in return to his threats. "Hmpf, good." Cerule spun around and smacked his face with amazing force. King flew a few feet and landed, with a broken face, twitching. The dane turned his attention to the rottwieler. "Dead already? I almost expected more of you..."

((OOC-sorry for the short post, it's REALLY hard to top THAT!)) Aspen's mouth was agape in awe of the events that happened so suddenly. He stared up at the blue Dane and heard the sickening, crunching sound of the Rotts jaws breaking echoing inside his skull. He wasn't that hungry anymore. 'Everything was going to be fine, no one was going to get hurt. But then that stupid Rottweiler.....' He glanced over at Goldie to see if she was okay. He heard her apology, but was to stunned to reassure her. Right now he felt like he needed reassurance. Aspen would never abandon Goldie, but if this Dane suddenly turned on them, could he really save her. Out of nowhere, literally, came a wave of confidence. He couldn't let Goldie see him tremble, she needed him to be strong, to let her know she could depend on him. Aspen took a step forward and addressed the Dane. "What the hell? Did they really deserve that!" Even Aspen was surprised that he said them. "Sure that Rex guy was an irritating bastard with small brain and a shorter temper, and that King character had a bit of an ego, but still."

The dane looked up surprised. He had almost forgotten the other dogs standing right in front of him. His blue eyes dimmed, "I apologize..." he continued in a grave voice, "However, it was something that was needed. They were nothing buy trouble, those two. I only joined thier pack because they promised me something..." He looked off to the distance, just as he had when he first arrived.
After a few moments, he looked again at the two. "I know you two don't trust me, but I really need your help." He stood dignified and powerful, his deep blue eyes looked at each of them, keeping eye contact.
Goldie looked at Aspen, "What do you think?"
