Raider stood facing his first week of life in the wild. The Southern Alps rose up before him as guardians of the truly rugged heart of Japan. This was not going to be just another day on the streets of Tokyo; this was a start of his new life. He would have to shed all of the experiences of the street life that might weigh him down in his quest for the place he belonged. There had been an empty pit in his chest ever since he had left behind his pack. They had unanimously decided against following Raid into the Southern Alps and he couldn't say that he blamed them. If he didn't learn how to locate food, hunt it, and bring it down, he was doomed to die alone.
Food was not the only thing Raid had to worry about. Just as in the city, there were territories claimed by other dog packs. A lone and inexperienced Kai Ken would not stand a chance against another dog who would be naturally comfortable with his or her environment. And that is if it came down to a one on one confrontation. At least in that sort of situation he would have a chance, but if he came across a hostile pack, his chances did not look promising.
His first order of business would be to get through a pass in the towering mountain range. Winter was nigh and he would not last long if a storm were to kick up out of the blue. Last night had been one of the coldest he had ever experienced. No doubt the elevation was a contributor, but Fall was coming to the end and he would have to make it through the Alps as quickly as he may. Raid scanned the valley below him, his sharp youthful eyes were quick to locate the nearest water source. If he could follow that through the mountains then he would have won half the battle. There was no stopping him now. With a heave he shot forward like an arrow from a bow with his tail waving like a banner. There was no longer any point in hesitating. This was it.
