I know some things that you don't I've done things that you won't There's nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home
The rain that had been coming down for hours was now starting to stop and the first rays of sunlight could be seen filtering through the clouds. The light create a vast rainbow of every color, bringing about hope to the land. One creature, though, did not feel very hopeful at the moment; her small form was curled up in a branch of a tall, study, tree. The young canine had weathered the storm up in the tree, hating the sounds of the thunder and the sight of lightning. But as the storm started to die down, she had managed to drift off and get some sleep. Lately she had not been sleeping well. The reason? Memories of her past kept plaguing her.
The sun continued to shine, making her white fur, specked with rain drops, sparkle like crystal. It also brought attention to her strange red marking on her face and her red ears. The light warmed her cold body and made her loosen slightly from her tight ball. Eventually, she was laid out like a leopard, enjoying the warmth of the sunlight as it dried her fur. Soon the other creatures of the forest began to come out and the forest was alive once more. The sounds of the birds made the young dog's red ear twitch slightly. Slowly one green eye opened, then another. With great effort, she rose to a sitting position, still stiff from staying curled up for so long.
Kai stretched her muscles and yawned, showing her sharp canines. Then she walked to the tip of the branch and looked down; she was fairly high up. If one was not looking up, they would not notice her, unless the caught sight of her pure white fur and red markings. After a few minutes of looked around, she sighed and returned to the base of the branch and sat down with her back resting against the tree. A sad look entered her eyes as she looked up to see a small family of birds in a next higher up in the tree; their loud chirping had alerted her to there presence. Quickly she looked away and blinked away tears as she wish for the millionth time that Rei was still with her.
But Rei was gone, killed by a heartless akita. And now the one-year-old was left alone to live by herself. Kai hated being alone, but she had no choice, for how could she trust anyone? The last beast that Rei and her had trust was that akita... That soulless bastard had taken away her only family. And he wasn't even family by blood! But he was the only on willing to raise her, to care for her. She growled softly as the thought of that akita and dug her claws into the branch's bark. "I just can't trust anyone, can I?" she asked bitterly, not expecting an answer.

I'm face down on the tracks The train is coming fast And it's not derailing It's not the first time And this won't be the last That my heart is failing
As the air ceased to be filled with numerous drops of water, it was left with just the scent of purity that trailed after each raindrop. It was a scent like no other; one that was heavy with sorrow and some undefined feeling lingering in it, but yet so simple and refreshing. If you could ever call the sadness refreshing. But I guess that fully depends on the mind of the one contemplating such a thing, for many would have different opinions on this simple matter. But to prove this as a positive thing, the Sun finally dared show its face after hiding behind the dark clouds for hour, letting its rays fall upon the wet earth and its creatures and slowly start to dry the Earth.
Annie snorted, utterly displeased with her current situation. The rain stopping was the last thing she wanted right now, and as the light hit her eyes, she could feel a headache coming on. It started as an almost unnoticeable pulsating in her temples, only to get more intense and the pain to sharpen as the clouds drifted away. After spending days in the cave with no light, curled up in a miserable ball of wet fur and blood, her eyes were too sensitive for such a sudden change. Besides, she loved rain, so loved how gloomy the world looked and how it made her stand out less in the usually cheery crowd. She blended in when everything was dripping wet and she was all alone, expression as dark as ever, with no one to glare at her or tell her to just cheer up.
But she couldn’t afford to just stand there, at the cave’s entrance, the remainder of the day. Even by just glancing at her one could tell in how bad condition the female fox was, for the sight was indeed far from pleasing. Her gray fur was far from its original color; it had become sort of brownish as the mixed blood and mud dried on her. Her normally slim figure now looked like it would break if the wind blew just a little harder, and her fake limb was just a piece of shattered metal. All in all, An looked like she would collapse any second, and the somewhat dull look in her eyes didn’t do anything to make the things seem brighter.
She had to get herself some food, and she had to do it soon. For the past few days she was too big of a mess to do anything except lay in her cave and chew on the metal leg till she could taste blood when she got close enough to the flesh. She was too broken to go out and live, so she stayed there until she mustered up enough strength to pick herself up and get out. She didn’t want to die like a piece of trash, she just wasn’t sure if she could live.
The fire spread quickly, speeding towards the petrified female with such certainty that it would soon clam her that even the Sun looked away and disappeared behind the thick smoke that rose toward the heavens. It was so hot; the air itself seemed to be melting at a quick rate as it burned her throat and lungs on its way down. Like swallowing boiling water. Her vision was blurred as her eyes filled with tears and smoke, and soon the world was just a burning mass of red and gray and that unbearable fear that threatened to crush her into the ground. It was a pressure that she thought would shatter her skull, something that was attacking her from all sides, a merciless enemy that wanted to keep her frozen in place and ease the job for the flames that were ready to consume her any second. She couldn’t move. She couldn’t see. She couldn’t breathe. She was scared. Scared. Frightened. Terrified. Paralyzed. The memories of all the times she got burnt in the circus, as a pup, flooded her mind and every scar on her body was aflame, as if the was there and her throat raw from screaming, all over again. And it would happen, it would happen again, and she couldn’t move. ‘Dammit!’ the thunder broke the flow of the images and she jumped from her spot as the first flame caught her paw, bolting away from the death as fast as her legs could carry her. Even faster. Her eyes were closed, the fur around them wet with unwillingly shed tears, and she fell of the steep side of the hill, tumbling down like a simple rock. Every bone, every muscle, she could feel everything hurt, she could feel her body slowly starting to shut down as she stopped moving down. But the only thought she had was that she had escaped. ‘No fire. No fire. No f-…’ And it was all dark.
It had been a close call. Such a close call. And it made everything, everything rush back to her head the moment she woke up the next morning. The burns, the beatings, the training, people laughing at her and pointing fingers, the whole circus going to hell with the flames, a man saving her, that man chaining her, putting her in a cage, pushing her into the ring. And a dog. The dog. The one who ended her fighting career the very first time she laid a paw onto the ring. The one who made sure she never had four paws to touch it again. And she remembered him teeth perfectly. Every inch of them as they buried in her leg, and she never forgot how strong his jaws were as he bit it off.
It had messed with her, bad. She had worked so hard to forget it all, to try and at least make it hurt less, to try and not break down shivering every time she would see the fire or a fighting dog. Or a ring. Or a cage. And now this had made all of her efforts in vain, it brought her down so fast that her head was still swimming by the time she crawled to that cave.
But now she had to suck it up and drag her ass a bit farther away, get herself something to eat and preferably some water. Some that didn’t have mud in it. And some other that would allow her to get the filth out of her fur, now that it was dried it was starting to feel like she was wearing an armor that was way too small for her for quite some time. With careful and somewhat pained steps, she slowly, very slowly, made her way from the cave, trusting her nose to lead her to where she wanted. But oh well, it’s hard to concentrate on something when all that you can wrap your mind around is the fact that you are completely and utterly… a mess. She didn’t ever realize when she picked up the scent of another canine, and even before that registered in her head; she was standing by an old tree that had its branches spread above her.
Blinking in confusion, Annie decided to sit down and spare herself the pain that was spreading from her missing led while she let her pale green eyes wander about, searching for what brought her here in the first place. The surrounding area seemed empty at the first glance, and she could figure out why in the world had she wondered in here of all places. There was no water, no other living creatures that could serve as poor food… nothing! Just… trees! Anrui sighed in defeat, finally admitting she was off her rocker. This… she had to pull herself together, or she would wind up dead sooner than planned.
A gust of wind sent a shiver down her spine, and she finally recognized the smell that was all around her, she was just too off her game to notice it before it literally was forced down her nose. Laying her ears back, the fox hybrid lifted her head, eyes directed at something she could barely see. A canine. A dog. The fur on the back of her neck stood straight, and a low rumbling noise erupted from her throat. The rough and violent mask was slowly being put on and the obvious traces of weaknesses disappeared. Seconds later, in the place of the broken miserable female stood a fighter not to be messed with, one that would attack anyone. No matter the size, no matter the chances for survival.
It would all have seemed that much frightening if she hadn’t collapsed after a few seconds, a helplessly enraged look on her face… But she had no strength left in her body to get back on her paws…
As the blood is rushing to my head And from my wrists I'm in love with all the things I know I should resist

The young canine let out a sigh as she looked up and stared at the disappearing rainbow. Her thoughts wandered as she watched as the colors of the sky fade away. She wished that she could fade away also, just like the rainbow, but that was not going to happen. Kai let out another sigh and looked down, noticing a slight movement. Her head cocked slightly; That thing looks awful, she thought, narrowing her green eyes.
Suddenly the creature began to growl ferociously, surprising the shikoku-ken mix so much that she stood and began to growl herself. Even though she was depressed to be alone, she wouldn't give up and just let herself go down without a fight. But then the strange canine collapsed and she noticed that the other was mostly skin and bones. Without thinking, she jumped out of the tree and landed a few feet in front of the stranger.
"Are... Are you okay?" she asked quietly, knowing what the answer would be.
