She awoke to the birds chirping. Even with the freshly fallen snow, the sparrows still sung. With a yawn, she stood and stretched. Two furry youngsters tumbled from her coat. ”Aw mom watchu do that fer?” Complained a young male voice, as he stood shaking his head. His mother only smiled own at him, before shaking her fur loose of the sawdust they'd slept on. ”Time for breakfast, you two.” She spoke at last, before picking up the still sleeping femme. ”Come on Thi.” Their mother carried them out to the porch. Settling the pups down on the old wooden surface, she glanced over her shoulder at the abandoned farmhouse. ”Ugh its cold!” Whined one pup. ”You'll warm up in a bit, Thu.” The pup mumbled to himself, wishing he had a longer coat like his mother and sister did.
Bao stretched once more, before leaping off the deck and down the stairs. The pups tumbled after her, only to stop short once the wood gave way to something else entirely. The two had not yet sen snow, and they stared at the strange white powder in wonder. At last one pup was brave enough to take a step forward. 'Ah! Its cold!” Yipped Thu, taking a step back. ”What is this?” Complained Thu. Their mother chuckled, stepping beside them. ”It is called snow. Its ok, go on ahead.” Both pups looked up at her in shock. ”No way!” They both chimed. Bao turned with a smile, before nudging both pups headlong into the snow. They yelped in surprise, leaving their mother laughing behind them. ”Its cold its cold its cold its- oh a mouse!” Thu exclaimed, but his fear was quickly turned to jubilation. Rolling over in the snow, he pounced, snapping up the small rodent in his jaws. ”Look look I caught it I caught it!” He held the mouse aloft by its tail, before gulping it down. Smiling proudly, their mother looked on.
