The wind picked up the sand with ease, displacing it from one dune to the next in an endless cycle. The early morning brought a cool temperature to the desert-land, making it almost beautiful in a sense as the plants that bore flowers were in bloom. He looked upon it in disgust. This was not his home with the steep, rolling hills of sand that caught the sun's rays and baked beneath them in a field of white gold. It was a rare wasteland, robbed of it's nutrients, and unnatural occurance that managed to thrive beyond how it appeared it could manage. And it was for this reason he was drawn to it, in spite of his repulsion. A kinship. A vein attempt and awakening a fading memory. It may not be the valley of the kings, but so long as he trod upon its barren soil, it would have rein.
Raising his head from the murky pool at his feet, the water soddened his mandarin, the beard-like fur growing in a scraggled knot at his chin, and dripped back down into the pitiful excuse for an oasis. Gazing across the open land, the fiery color of his eyes almost matched that of the rising son as he met its glare with disdain. Swiping his tongue across the grizzled flecks of his muzzle, he sighed a soft and weary sound. He had the urge to run, no... to sprint and feel the sand under his claw, but knew in his chest that he could not, for he would easily fall apart. What he needed was blood, only then could he last for another day.
"Damn sun.." He uttered the simple curse at the ball of fire as he paced along the edge of the pool where the sparse shadows met the light which grew in intensity with each moment that passed. He needed to find more shade, somewhere cooler, but as he scanned the horizon, the sand seemed to go on for miles. "Perhaps.. will wait here," he muttered, his voice rich and deep, flavored with an accent of unknown origin.
Stretching, his hips protruded from the smooth plain of fur along his back in sharp angles as he laid down. His long back fur grew out from much of the rest of his body, and provided a nice cushion on his paws. Placing his chin there, he rested, but wouldn't sleep. He couldn't, for the dead don't sleep while they walk with the living. However when he sprawled out on his side, his emaciated appearance and odd posture made him look it enough as he closed his eyes to protect his vision from the harsh sun. And so the dragon rested in his trance, undisturbed for the time being.
