- The Basics -
Name: David Meaning: Thought to be Hebrew for "beloved", used in reference to the boy who slew the giant, Goliath. Nicknames: Old Man (discouraged as much as possible by the nick-namee). Alias: As a puppy his name was Jay, for his eyes, when he first joined the pack as a full fledged adult he was honored by his father's name, David.
Technically he is David II
Species: Dog Breed: German Shepherd (of the rough long-haired variety).
Age: Adult Gender: Male
- Appearance -
Height: 25 in. Weight: 76 lbs.
-----------------------
Description:
David is an older dog, not quite in the realm of "senior" yet but enough to warrant raised ears and scornful looks at his ragged company.
He is a large dog, lean, hard ripple near his bones, hinting at visibility even beneath his long ragged fur, though very thin after years of living alone, despite his strength he's had to be cautious in his hunting, one hit to the head and it's all over after all.
He has a thick black muzzle, and the traditional markings of a German shepherd, the fur on his neck is longer and drapes over his base coat like a mane.
His expressive ears and bright blue eyes are often endowed with a distant, thoughtful expression or a deep wordless frown. -----------------------
Scars: He has three long ones across the bridge of his snout extending to both side of his face, and another large ugly one on his left hind leg, both are from an encounter with a pack of wild dogs he once belonged to, as a commanding General.
Other Information:
David does have problems sleeping at night, he is troubled by strange, violent dreams often and is usually kept awake for fear of having them again. During the day however he can nap without worry.
There is one other odd thing about him, and that is that he does not prefer the company of female dogs, he'd rather take another male as a mate, he's never spoken of this to any one and just pretends not to be interested in a love life to preserve his secret.
- Personality -
Summary:
Brave, hard-working, gruff, soft-hearted, distant, sarcastic and strangely troubled at times, by things he can't explain to other dogs if asked, or even heckled. Mostly it has to do with his dreams.
He has a funny tendency to occasionally abandon his gruffness and wax poetic, it was the subject of many jokes in his old pack, mostly it was the fault of his father who had once been the dog of a particularly intelligent human. This is also where his romance came from, he feels the need to be a knight in shining armor, though often it's this that lands him in trouble with his brethren.
-----------------------
Physical:
David is, or once was a great fighter, but he's not bothered to do it in a while, preferring to avoid confrontation.
The only opportunities that have presented themselves are when he's chased off territories by assorted packs, and into different ones, he rarely puts up a struggle and just keeps moving on, it's all the same to him.
As an adolescent he was made a General of a large pack for his fighting skills. This was namely for his enormous endurance, bravery and cunning, an ability to take hits again and again without weaking and his accuracy in finding his enemy's weaknesses quickly.
He was also popular with females for his deep blue eyes, long coat and hilarious tendency to occasionally wax poetic, however he never found a mate he could honestly say he loved or even took a solid liking to. Mostly because he's expected to go after females and David's interests differ...though he is too afraid by the reactions he will receive to ever explore them.
Mental:
When he's finally come out of his hard, humorless shell, David reveals himself to be witty with a kind of "rough around the edges" charisma. He is sought after for advice particularly for his ability in insight, he can usually tell how a comrade is feeling just by looking at them, and will often offer his wisdom if he feels the other dog needs it, whether it's wanted or not.
This also helps him when he confronts his enemies so he can figure out a weak spot quickly and use it to his advantage. When he does fight that is.
David has a romantic nobility to him that some dogs consider snobbery. He refuses to fight an enemy unless he has a really good reason, his sense of justice is deeply ingrained and he will never forsake it no matter the consequences.
Social:
David first comes off as a bitter old grouch, his nobility and high speech is often mistaken for cockiness and spite, though he usually intends no harm he refuses to sacrifice his beliefs for anyone's sake. After he's warmed to someone however he becomes a valuable friend because he never abandons those he holds dear to them, even if he will try to shove advice and morals down their throats when they don't want to hear it.
His wisdom and courage made him popular in his own pack, but his bigheartedness was discovered made use of and used against him brutally. Despite being reduced to a loner, searching for scraps and chasing after mice and rabbits, his pride hasn't dwindled, he carries himself high with radiating confidence, and the barest hint of a challenge.
Because of what has happened before he has decided to hide his true feelings and wears a mask of meanness, indifference and shame.
-----------------------
Strengths:
His high code of ethics often feeds fire to his fights, thus since he never fights without good reason he can go into everything whole heartedly, more than most dogs can say for themselves in any situation. His physical prowess and justice make him an ideal leader, thought he hasn't led in a long time since being exiled from his pack. Also, he can be charming in a rough way and sometimes has a soothing fatherly affect on younger dogs he uses to his advantage. His insight also lets him pick apart his friends and enemies based on their mannerisms, a powerful weapon to employ.
Weaknesses:
His kindness, once found out, makes him easy to manipulate and control through fear of hurting others, he can be seen as snobby which usually makes other dogs bitter towards him, his older age can slow him down when he's been pushed a bit too hard (it can also make him cranky as hell) and sometimes he can be hugely hypocritical, which other dogs find infuriating.
His obscure sexual orientation , and his fear of not being accepted even by himself makes him unable to find love, something he deeply regrets.
- Other Information -
History:
David was born into a pack by a high-ranking former hunting dog also named David, all of his beliefs and most of his physical traits were passed down from his father, when his father died he was set up to fill his paw prints and easily rose in the ranks. However he was fooled into thinking another General of the pack was in danger, only to find him already dying after being attacked by David's second in command.
David tried to rescue his comrade but it was too late, he was found with the dead companion's scent and blood all over him when the Leader returned from his hunt, several dogs, egged on by David's ambitious former friend claimed to have seen him kill his the General and he was beaten brutally as a warning and exiled from the pack.
Marked as a traitor he was also rejected from other packs in his region via rumors spread quickly, he's traveled alone for years and has just now arrived farther north where he beleives he can start over and regain his honor.
---
Magic: David's dreams are rare glimpses of the past, sometimes the past has nothing to do with himself and he dreams of things he's never even seen.
Fighting Techniques:
None special to speak of, he's an all around rough 'n tumbler when the mood takes him. He has developed an interesting way of psyching out and confusing his opponents by talking too much.
